Gas filling problem....

I just spent ten minutes putting the last five gallons in my tank, again.

I have seen this topic lately, has anyone been able to get their dealer to fix it? (or even admit to it being a problem?)

Thanks

Re: Gas filling problem....

You didn't state the size of your truck. It has been talked about with the SB. My LB and I believe other LB owners don't seem to have a problem.

Re: Gas filling problem....

Do you really think that a long bed or short bed makes a difference in how fast the gas goes in? The fuel tank filler neck and opening should be exactly the same on both. I guess maybe their could be a funny bend in short beds neck?! Do people have this problem at all gas stations or just the same one they go to every week?

Re: Gas filling problem....

I have the CC SWB with 29 Gallon tank and have a terrible time getting the last couple of gallons of fuel in. It does seem to be a problem with a number of people on this site but not sure if it is specific to the LWB or SWB.

Re: Gas filling problem....

I have a longbed and it takes forever to get the last five or so gallons in. One guy says he even brings a ramp to park his drivers side rear wheel on at the pump and that speeds his fill up. That sounds like a major PITA to me. Hoping Ford finds a fix.

Re: Gas filling problem....

Last Sat. I filled up at a different station with a flat (level) pump area... took a long time to get those last couple of gallons in the tank. Where I usually get gas, the pump area is sloped a little and I don't have a fueling issue at all.

Re: Gas filling problem....

CC SB, slow to fill the last 4 or 5 gals every time. I have tried the 4x6 block under the lt. rear tire and it helps a teeny bit but is rather a PITA...

Re: Gas filling problem....

For those that think their tank is topped off after the first couple of clicks of the nozzle, try to spend a little more time trying to top off the tank next fill up. Try to run the pump as slow as you can without it clicking off. Fill it until you see the fuel in the filler opening. You might even get a cramp in your hand while doing it. 4 gallons or more seems to be the range.

We've just obtained a '98 Taurus wagon at my part time employment, and it does the same thing. It takes 4 gallons after the pump clicks off the first time. Ford must have a strangely designed fill system.

Re: Gas filling problem....

I (unfortunately) usually run fuel out and down the side of the truck. It's definitely FULL. Not so good for the environment, but I need every drop in the tank that I can get.

Re: Gas filling problem....

My last few gallons always creep along. It is rather annoying, I think it's just the shortbeds.

Re: Gas filling problem....

I have a 99.5 SC SB. It always takes forever to get the last 5 gallons in. BTW, it is the same for my wife's 96 Windstar...

Re: Gas filling problem....

Who knows what causes this. I go back and forth to east Texas every weekend (building a house). Last Sunday my light came on just as I entered Houston. I think this means I have 12% of fuel left, can't remember what the manual says. 12% is 4.56 gallons. After work on Monday I filled it up at Costco (.88 cents now BTW). The pump popped at 35.5 gallons and I added another quart or two before some gas splashed out.

Bottom line, mileage computer, "miles to empty", and amber fuel low light all pretty darn close. My truck sits level and is a 99.5. I figure the diesel guys have a bit more foam to deal with. Who knows.

Re: Gas filling problem....

I have never really had a problem with my trucks (99'250 SB V10, 01 250 SB v10) but I have had problems with my ford Explorer always leeking gas out of the top while filling.
