Noticed that the fuel gauge needle on the truck likes to fluctuate (sp) while driving. By this I mean that while driving the needle seems to drop. Look at it again and it has moved back up. Or when I come to a stop it will move back up. So question is; does this thing (fuel tank sending unit) calibrate itself while on the go or when truck is not moving to give true reading? It seems the sender is located somewhere in the rear half of the fuel tank. When the truck's attitude is "nose down" (or "nose up"), the gauge will read a bit low (or a bit high). The gauge will slowly settle in to a nominal reading as the truck levels off.

I believe the fuel sender "samples" the tank every few minutes, so as not to fluctuate as often as the fuel level can (does), as mentioned in the above posts. That may explain the "low" reading one minute and "high" the next.
