Gas Smell In Cab

I've got a 99 V-10 with about 67,000 miles on it. I've been noticing over the past several weeks that when I stop for a bit, (say at a light), that I start to get what I think is a gas smell in the cab. (It is NOT an exhaust smell.) Today, riding around with the A/C blasting pretty high, it was really noticable when I stopped.

Today I stopped and popped the hood while it was idling and I couldn't see where any gas was leaking. (Granted, it is hard to see well at the rear of the engine and I didn't feel like crawling up in there in our 90+ degree heat.) The truck seems to be running as well as normal, and so far I haven't noticed any decrease in mileage.

Anybody here have any thoughts on what the problem might be and/or any known issues that might cause this? If it is a fuel leak, I figure I probably should get it fixed soon as I really don't want to see flames peaking out from under the hood as I'm trucking down the interstate at 70+. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

Re: Gas Smell In Cab

Check the EVAP canister. My 01 Mustang did that. The smell was worse at times than others. It ended up throwing the check engine light and I took it into Ford. They couldn't seem to figure it out and someone suggested I check the canister. The fitting that runs from the tank had pulled out of the canister. A malfuntioning solenoid on the EVAP can cause that sometimes as well.

Re: Gas Smell In Cab

After you check the suggestions above....It wouldn't hurt to check
all the spark plugs and make sure none of them are loose, this may not be the cause but it is a good idea to do as preventive maintenance.
