GCWR

What goes into determining GCWR?

For example the only difference between an F350 CC V10 is gears 3.73 vs 4.30.

However there is a 3000lbs GCWR difference.

What causes the decrease in capacity? Less ability to get the load moving? Do to the gears, or less torque. I just don't get it.

Re: GCWR

Probably the acceleration tests. They must perform certain maneuvers in an allotted amount of time, I would think. So, since the 4.30s can get the load going quicker, they score quicker times thus can take more load.

Re: GCWR

Tim's on the right track...

Subject to the truck chassis limits and holding everything else constant (i.e. tire diameter), there's pretty much a direct relationship between engine torque, axle ratio and GCWR.

In this case 20K GCWR divided by 4.30 is about the same as 17K divided by 3.73.
