When the lease is up, I cant decide which truck to get. A 2001 Ford F150 XLT Supercab with the 5.4, or step up to the 2001 F250 SD With the v10. I can actually get the F250 for less than the F150. But will I loseout on speed, manuervability, etc.?

Mine's not here yet, so take what I have to offer with a lump of salt.
Maneuverability will suffer with a crew cab. With a Super cab, I doubt it. Mostly, the difficulty centers around turning radius. With the crew, it takes some room to get it around. The SC 250 is 3 in. longer than an F150 SC. If you are going to stay with the SC, maneuverability should be pretty much identical.
As for speed, we are dealing with a heavier truck with the 250. More mass = less speed unless you get a more powerful engine. If you stick with the V8, I imagine you will be sad with the performance. Other bulletin boards I look in on say that with a gasser, the 5.4l just does not have the get up and go they want. The V10 offers more power at about the same fuel economy, apparently. Has to do with the 5.4 straining more to do the same job and shifting down into lower gears more often, I thin. My preference, natch, is for the diesel.
Speed also depends on choice of rear axle. 4.33 and 3.73 come with the V10. 4.33 is good for towing or burning people at the go line, 3.73 is better on empty highway driving. Depends on the type of speed you need - acceleration or top end.
If you don't do a lot of heavy towing or hauling, the V10 probably makes sense. It allows flexibility - the 5.4 will not do anything in this truck except be a commuter. The V10 can do that and do hauling/towing competently when called upon. The diesel can do the job of towing and hauling, but diesel diehards to the contrary, has some downsides as well. Nothing is ever easy.
The truck is taller, by far, so parking in a parking garage becomes a definite problem. This is a real consideration.
Might want to post this in the gas forum to get more answers. I expect that the thread will soon be moved there anyway.

You will loose out on speed to some extent, but not so much so that you'll be a hinderance on the road.. You'll be able to easily keep up with traffic from light to light.
You'll probably notice the manuervability differences as well.. The SD is wider/longer/taller than the F150, with slightly larger turning radius. BUT, you do get used to it quickly.
The F250 does have a slightly stiffer ride, but not jolting or anything severe..
My practical needs (towing etc) only really required the F150, however, I really liked the interior room of the F250 better, (and so do my kids). I liked the exterior look of the F250 much better as I don't care for the F150 front end much. I also like sitting higher (like a 4x4), with the 4x2 SD.
I'm not much of a speedster on the road, so I went with the F250.. I even have the 5.4L and the new F250 truck out runs my old 89' 4x2 Ranger with the 5sp 2.9L. So for me I even gained in the speed category..
So whats important to you, and what are you willing to compromise on? Don't worry, many of the reasons I bought an SD are shallow, but it's my truck and its what I wanted.
Yep, krey is right. This forum is for general questions about PSDs. There is nothing in this thread about PSDs, so I'll move it to the gasser forum where it'll get the attention of the gasser fans.

I very much disagree that the rear seat in the F150 SC is better than the F250 SD SC.
In the 1999/99.5 model year, I might agree.
However,
they changed the rear seat in the SD considerably for 2000. In 2000, its a full seat back just like the F150 rear SC seat.
Also, the rear seat is a 60/40 fold up in the SD in y2k, just like the f150. Also, in 2000, the SD seats fold up differently allowing for underseat storage.
Leg room on the SD is about the same, (maybe a tiny bit more in the SD than the F150 SC). But, the seat is much wider in the SD which lets my kids stretch out a bit more.. Also, I even fit a rear facing kids carseat in the back seat middle, as it fits between the 2 front seats slightly.. In the F150, I couldn't do this because the 2 front seats were closer together.

You're right, it's confusing, perhaps, especially for new folks. But the entire site, with 2 exceptions, is for discussion of diesel pickups. One exception is the Other Topics Other forum. Our WebMaster allows you to discuss anything you wish in that forum, subject to common sense and decency. The other exception is your new '99-up Topics Gas Engines forums. If you wanna talk gasoline, this is your forum. If you wanna talk diesel, there are several other forums. But the WebMaster has decided that discussions of gasoline engines and trucks will not be discussed in the diesel forums.
Please don't shoot me. I'm just the messenger.

We just replaced our 98 F150 S/C 4.6L with a 2K F250 Crew Cab. The old truck was to small for the family. We got the Power Stroke. We drove the V-10, and was not all that impressed with the power.I realise the PSD is almost a $4000 option, but if you plan on towing or keeping the truck, it's the only wat to go. As far as the 250 v.s. 150 Super Cab's, the 150 has much better seating in the rear seat than the 250. The rear seat in the 250 SC is awfull! Also, I don't know about your area, but V-10's in California are almost IMPOSSIBLE to find. I've heard excuses from they are all in the Excursions to CA Air Resource Board only allows a certain amount in the state. Good luck!BTW, the PSD KILLS my 1994 F250 with a 460 when it comes to pulling!
