I took about 100,000 miles for my K&N gasket to crush enough to let air around.
I still run it, just a new one. It certainly isn't the lifetime filter they advertise. And yes, I have had to clean the MAF after each oiling. I seem to over-do it every time. But i'm still on the original one after 242,000 miles.
