GMC Sierra 2500 or F-250?

HELP. I am pretty sold on a F250 CC PSD SB but am faced with the problem that it won't fit in the garage! My wife suggested that the GMC 2500 would just fit. I am not looking to get nuked here just some hard facts from the folks that have gone before me. I will not consider the DMAX engine due to it's newness and the aluminum heads. Two years from now would be another story but I can't wait that long. What are the pros and cons of the GMC 2500 gas truck? I really like the lariat with the PSD but I must be practical. I will be pulling a 2 horse trailer (not a gooseneck) about 2 times a month on day trips. Thanks for the input, I can be reached in the fallout shelter. Rich.

Re: GMC Sierra 2500 or F-250?

i have had both...but right now i have a 2500HD Chevy...obviosly gas mileage will be the biggest difference...i am getting about 12 city and 14highway with my 6.0 with 4.10's...the reports i have read elsewhere have the 8.1 almost in the same ballpark...if you are going to pull, get the 8.1...

i would think that if the ford crew cab would not fit in your garage, the gmc/chevy crew cab probably will also not fit...why not just get a ext cab lariat PSD?

for more info on the gm trucks both gas and diesel, check out www.thedieselpage.com

hope that was of some help, good luck

Re: GMC Sierra 2500 or F-250?

All 250 SD's come with a GVWR of 8,800 lbs. The curb weight of the 250 you're considering will be in the 6,800 lb range, leaving just 2,000 lbs of payload capacity for that big cab and big box.
For just $700 or $800 more, you might want to consider the 350 SRW. It weighs about 10 lbs more than the 250, but its GVWR is 9,900 lbs.

Re: GMC Sierra 2500 or F-250?

This was a good form but it had limited gas information. I am reading that diesels have better mileage than the gas v8? Am I reading this correctly or am I reading into this? (I like the diesel motor). Do you have any hard pros/cons for the Sierra 2500 with a 6L vortec? Thanks, Rich

Re: GMC Sierra 2500 or F-250?

personally i love my 6.0 with 4.10's...i have heard a few accounts of people that say the 6.0 with 3.73 are dogs...my 4.10 geared 6.0 is very pleasant to drive...

and yes mileage is one big advantage to a diesel...my same truck with the dmax is getting 17-20 mpg while i get 12-14...but that comes at a 5K upfront premium...other than the mileage, i am very pleased with the 6.0...has lots of power..but if you really want the truck to tow a big trailer, go diesel or 8.1/ v-10....the 6.0 can do the job but not nearly as good as the others..
