I have had my new Super Duty for about 2 months now and from day one the cruise has surged. Most noticeably when going down hill. It will let off then correct by giving to much gas. This morning I noticed it very slightly with light wind, about 5mph, and the cruise at 58mph. I have searched here and f150online and have not found anyone that has had this problem fixed. I would take it to the dealer but I’m sure they will say it is normal. Or they will reprogram my computer. The last time they did that on my F150 I hated the way it shifted. Any one had this fixed??? Mine has always done that, it really punches it sometimes. On long flat stretches it just throttle surges constantly. I agree, it's very annoying, but haven't found the cure to fix it. I guess it's from to much power...

Mine does it also but, its not too noticeable. I've found that when it does surge I can correct it by hitting the off button to canx cruise control reset cruise control again. Seems to work for me even at the speed in which it was surging.

I think there are two separate issues with the cruise- at least that I have noticed.
First, when running empty, it over-compensates for hills and small speed variations caused by even just small wind gusts and terrain shifts. The interesting thing is that this problem doesn't seem to exist when towing the trailer. It's like Ford expects us to be towing all the time.
Second, at least a couple of us (I and Fredvon4) have noticed that at "exactly" (or very darn close) 70mph, the truck surges very badly- even on flat land. Hit just under or just over 70, and everything is OK. This particular problem is speed related as I tried turning OD on/off and it had no effect on the surge.
Like most, I'm more afraid of what the dealer will tear up than I am annoyed by the surge. Thus, I'm just going to live with it.

Exactamundo! 70 mph seems to be speed this happens 95 % of the time.
I have also noticed resetting the cruise will help at times. I originally thought going to a performance chip eliminated this surge, but it finally happened. And guess where? 70 mph.
Towing does seem to eliminate most of it, hbut when cresting a hill and begining the decent, the truck will surge.
Personally I have NEVER experienced the surge with the OD off. I will check this out next time I tow.

One thought...Does this affect the V10s with both gear ratios or is the 3.73 more succeptable?

The '00 F250 w/4.30 gears had the same problem. But with all of the other problems that truck had, I figured the surge was caused by something else.
When this one did it too, I just assumed it's a design problem. Discussions like this help to affirm that assumption.
My truck doesn't seem to have that problem. I had the cruise set at 70 mph yesterday and didn't notice anything and that was going through the hills of West Virginia. Sounds to be an interesting problem though.
I too, have felt the Cruise Surge. I only notice it when going downhill...even slight downhills. It seemed to me by watching the tach, that it was caused by the converter locking and unlocking and the subsequent throttle changes trying to account for that. I see though, that at least one of the posters, Idaho BMW, has a five-speed. I agree, it's annoying but I doubt Ford can be of any help.

Had the same problem this weekend. 70 did seem to be a magic #. Ended up turning off the CC as it was driving us crazy. Anyone been to Ford to get there story?

I have a 4.10LS and notice that many of the complainants have 4.30 (though some have 3.73) final drive ratios. I go down a long hill every day in cruise and there is a noticable cutting in and out of the gas. I have always thought that this is the natural consequence of my high final drive ratio.
It's like putting on and off the gas when you're in 3rd gear- a neck wrencher.
Regards,

Had mine to the dealer with the surge problem and they said it's a characteristic of the vehicle. Not a very good answer in my opinion but seems to be a very frequent answer to most of the problems I am having.

My early 99 F350 V10 4.30 did it at exactly 69 mph. I know because if the speed limit is 60, I set the cruise at 69 to stay out of ticket range. My 00 F350 dually V10 4.30 does not do it. Maybe it's just manufacturing tolerances at work here.

Took mine to the dealer today for the CC surging. I guess I got an expected response.
