headers and warranty

My new banks powerpak is ready to ship. I just happened to be at the dealer the other day and asked if headers, exhaust mods break your engine warranty. He said yes. Anything aftermarket that is not FORD voids warranties. Banks advertises the opposite and most of you guys have done header mods. Whats the scoop, before I call Ford myself and poosibly cancel by powerpak. With only 365 miles on the beast I don't want to mess around with my warranty.

Re: headers and warranty

Any aftermarket equiptment you put on is CARB approved. The vehicle manufacturer has to prove that the problem is a direct result of that equiptment.

Yes they will say "this caused that problem", but if your ABS goes out the headers cannot cause an ABS problem. I hope this kinda clears it up for you. Also read about the MOSS-MAGNUSON act, this outlines this subject. I think I have spelled that correctly.

Re: headers and warranty

This is from Ford's Warranty & Policy Manual. (short version)
Quote:
Non-Reimbursable Conditions
The New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not provide coverage, and repairs are not reimbursable under warranty, when any of the following conditions/situations occur.

Damage Resulting From:

Alteration or modification of the vehicle- including the body, chassis, or components-after the vehicle leaves Ford's control.

Installation of non-Ford parts after the vehicle leaves Ford's control.

Tampering with the vehicle, tampering with the emissions systems, or with other parts that affect these systems.
Unquote.

Re: headers and warranty

Damage resulting from....

So if the damage is a result of my altering the (i.e)exhaust system, then they are not liable.

If the truck catches fire as a result of faulty wiring, they are liable.

In short the after-market component has to cause the damage directly in order not to be covered.

Re: headers and warranty

It's only money. You can research the facts and make your decision. They cannot dispute a problem that doesn't arise from the exhaust system.
