As you can see from my sig, I already have a sweet pickup, but the problem is that I got T-boned last summer and even though the damage has been fixed, I won't rest easy until I have a new pickup. I can't afford another powerstroke even though I would love one so I am considering a V-10.
Could some people give me REAL WORLD mileage for a F250 crew cab short bed with 4.30's and lifted 6-8" with 35's??? Just for the record, I currently average 16 mpg on the highway at 75, and 14-14.5 in town. If the V-10 delivers 2mpg less I will still save $126 per year after all gas and maintenance costs versus the powerstroke.
Thanks.

I don't have the truck set up you're looking for, but I'll chime in to get started. Check my sig first, I'll wait...
Okay, around town I average about 11.5-12 mpg. On the hwy, 15-16mpg running at 65-70. That's unloaded or loaded. Big trailer (9000lbs) will drop me down to about 8.
The real reason to get the V10 is because it is cool ! Plenty of power and very smooth. When people see the V10 badge, they want to see it. And yes, you can mod it out thoroughly (although I'm happy with the power stock).
I also like the PSD alot, but $4000 is a bunch of cash if you don't have it (and if you do, could you send it to me cause my new roof is gonna run about $5k ).
Just get it... You know you want it... Gas mileage, its a truck it doesn't get any. No but really my JD dealer in VA has a F-350 4wd with 4.30's and the V10, no lift but always has a 10,000# plus trailer and he gets 10 mph loaded. That mixed city/ highway.
I agree with Robb, the V10 is just cool. Just seeing the "Triton V10" badge on my fender gives me a smile every time.
Like I am very fond of pointing out, the extra MPG of the PSD is a false economy. Beyond the extra $4000 it costs up front, it is 14 quarts to change the oil vs. 6 for the V10, and those 6 are not NASTY like with the PSD. 15-16 MPG sounds nice to say, but it doesn't pay out. My V10 is just as economical, all costs considered, at 12 MPG.
And it doesn't stink, either.

Not broken in (~3000 miles), in a heavy 4x4 Excursion with 3.73's & a slushpump trans, my boss is getting 16MPG from a PSD. Broken in, 20MPG is doable, especially from a 6-speed or a 2WD--almost twice what the V10s get. At work, our V-10 shuttle vans (E-Super Duty & E-450) average a stupefying 2-3MPG. In identical driving, the PSD's get 6 (new engine in a 30' E-450) to 9-10 (well-worn 18,000-hour PSD in a 21' E-350). The PSD's also motor right up hills that are a WOT struggle for the V-10's.
IIRC, the oil change intervals are longer on the diesels. Or, just run Amsoil & don't change it until the analysis says to.
