Yesterday morning I went to start my 1999 V10 with 44k miles on it and it hesitated and then almost died...Then again this morning it did the same thing! Anybody else had this problem...any suggestions? Thanks in advance..

What type of fuel are you running? I usually run 92 non-oxygenated(sp?) but I heard that the lower the octain the better the perfomance. So the next tank I filled with 87 octain, and right away it started running terrible. It wouldn't start as well, it would hesitate when i would kick it down, and then "buck" when cruising at highway speeds. That's the last time I filled with 87. As soon as the 92 octain went in all that went away.

It runs ok after it gets warm but occasionally from a dead stop it'll stutter... I also heard you were only supposed to run mid-grade because of carbon build up...is this wrong?
It could be a sticking idle air control valve. It's located somewhere on the throttle body. Also, you change your fuel filter lately? (every 15k) Although you'd have problems with that at all speeds. Our trucks should run fine on 87 octane. Mine does. In fact, the few times I've tried 89 or 92 it runs worse. No power and bad mpg. I guess if I kept on using it the computer would eventually adjust to the higher octane.

Hmmm... definitely a tough problem to diagnose. I also think it may be something in the idle control system. Are you running the A/C? Sometimes, the extra load of the compressor can cause idle irregularities. Before you do anything major, change fuel stations. May (doubtful) have been a bad tank. I think if it were fuel, you'd have problems all the time.
I run 87 without any problems. I haven't tried it in this new truck, but the old one didn't have any positive or negative results running 93 octane.
It sounds to me like it could be something more along the lines of a bad ECT or O2 sensor. The O2 sensors are non-functional while in open loop (during cold starts)so if it indeed at its worst when the truck is cold I'd lean more toward the ECT or Electronic Coolant Temp. sensor being bad. Good luck.
