I have an opportunity to score a supercharger from a '99 Lightning pretty cheap. It comes with the supercharger and the pulley. I own a '99 F250 Superduty with the 5.4 and was wondering if it will fit, do I have to change compression ratio, how hard would this be?...etc. Also what hardware will be needed for this application and what kind of long term effects does it have, since I already have 65k on my truck. Any and all info would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Not to sound negative, but. The Lightning motor is beefed up to handle the extra boost.
These are some of the things you would have to buy to make it work:
Lower intake with intercooler.
Intercooler cooling system-independant from vehicle's sysytem.
Crank pully and bracket assembly for belts.
Bigger fuel injectors
High capacity fuel pump.
Engine management sysytem to control boost and injectors.
MAF sensor.
Bigger throttle body.
I can go on and on....but as you can see, it's really not feasible.
Putting the supercharger from the Lightning would be a pretty big project. You would be better off putting a Vortech or one of the centrifigal(sp) superchargers on. A bigger fuel pump would be needed but for under 100 h.p. you wouldn't need bigger injectors, Map sensor, throttle body, etc... just bolt it on and go. I plan on it after I get the money. I am used to a hopped up 325+ hp PSD, this 5.4 is a HUGE change. I can get the h.p. but never the touque.

I was told that the lightning would bolt right up but would be a big cost getting all the rest of the parts, intercooler etc so it would be better to go with another company. The difference is you would get a complete, intercooled kit. "We can help you upgrade to make some serious power. The Kenne-Bell and Whipple units are non-intercooled positive displacement types." I talked to a guy out of Dallas that handles magnacharger and procharger. I like my truck a lot, it would be awesome to be supercharged, but I don't know if the money is worth it, I was hoping to get out of this with out paying so much. No worries though. I have never dealt with superchargers and blowers so I have a lot of learning/reading to do. Let me know what you decide to do, which company you are going to go with. Thanks.
When I said big project I meant having to remove the intake etc.... I will probably go the route of Vortech, Pro Charger, or one of the others. Mainly because hey cost so much less than the Ford unit and from what I have read they are more efficient than the roots type blowers. I used to have Mustang 5.0s and I am pretty up to date on 5.0 performance and even some with the 4.6 but the 5.4 is all new stuff to me. I know Ford SVT put together a monster mustang with a DOC 5.4 that put out over 500 hp! Now if we could get our hands on that engine...............................
