How to fill up to full?

When I fill my truck, the nozzle does fine on high until about 20 gallons are in. Shortly thereafter it cuts off and I top off till it cuts off again. That procedure leaves the tank with only about 22-24 gallons in it. To get it full I have to baby another 5 gallons in by the trickle. That's if I can find a nozzle that trickle's slow enough!

Here in the desert that extra 4-5 gallons can really make a difference.

Thanks for any thoughtful info.

Re: How to fill up to full?

Mine's similar, though not as sensitive. I can fill to 25 or so, but the last 3 or 4 require some babying...

Re: How to fill up to full?

Mine does the exact same thing. It'll take about 23gal and then it's bottle feed time. It seems that with the high flow gas nozzles of today, they create such a disturbance it the tank during fill-up. The gas bubbles or foams and creates excessive vapor causing the switch in the nozzle to shut off.
Here in Ca. 76 is the only gas station that I have found that will let you really regulate the speed of fuel delivery. You guys are right though. It's a pain in the behind and makes for quite the extensive stay at the pump. As if it isn't bad enough already.:O

Re: How to fill up to full?

A quick look under the nozzle indicates that the hose going to the top of the tank is almost horizontal. I'm sure this is what is causing it to be so tempermental when near full.

If I didn't intend to install a 30 gal tank in the bed that will mate up with the OEM, I would start thinking how to route the fill hose up through one of the stake holders.
