Re: How Hard Is It to R&R 5.4 Cynl Head?

I have a 99150.. with the 5.4 had to have the head replaced because of #3 blowout. i just had 2 complete ready to run heads installed. cost me 3200.00 but my truck is in good shape. i would say if its given you no other issues keep the truck and fix.. but i would not do this yourself.. there is no warranty this way..

also i know with all of the stuff they had pulled off of mine.. might as well do both sides with all new gaskets..

if the truck is worth investing this money to you.. there is no way i could have purchased a new truck for 3K. that is in the shape mine is..

Probably not that big of a deal. Just need a shop manual, parts, pictures of some the hoses helps, and some time. I always like to have a table out in front to neatly place stuff on. Also helps keep track of the little stuff. If there is nothing wrong with the other side I'd leave it. But the gaskets usually come in pairs. You will have to keep up with the timing since it has a cam in the heads.

Go slow and it'll get done.

Re: How Hard Is It to R&R 5.4 Cynl Head?

Pass side sucks.
First pull all the crap off the top of the motor, you will also have to atleast move the can for the a/c out of the way. Jack up the truck and remove the pass side tire and the inner fender so you can get to the valve cover bolts. Trust me it is the easiest way. Rotate the motor so that the dot on the crank gear is at 6 o'clock (after you remove the front cover ofcourse) this puts all the pistons below the deck. If you dont do this you are more than likely going to bend a valve.
If you have any questions e-mail me at
gassedtruck@aol.com
I have pulled and installed my 5.4 3 times in the past 2 years so i kinda know what works and what doesnt.
