I just had Jiffy lube service my truck but brought my own oil(Mobil 1 6 quarts as stated in the owners manual). They told me the V10 took 7 quarts and that I would be a quart low. Is this true? Is the owners manual wrong stating 6 quarts? I went ahead and had them change the oil and went and bought one more quart. Anyone have an answer????

6 and only 6. Don't let those jerkies touch your truck! It is too easy to change oil in these trucks--do it yourself.

My Y2K 5.4 uses exactly 6.5 qts at each oil/filter change. I attribute the extra .5 qt. to the oil filter relocation. The oil filter is horizontal on normal 5.4's and vertical on mine. I see that some sources are referring to this hybrid 5.4L in the Superdutys as the "5.4l SD". It has the air filter and radiator overflow setup the same as the V-10 along with the "oil cooler" hoses coming off the radiator through the oil filter flange.
It wouldn't surprise me to see that you need 7 qts but I agree that it is simple to do your own changes on this truck. I installed a ball valve instead of the oil drain plug and, with the camper pack, the truck sits so high you can fit a BUCKET under the oil pan without even lifting the truck! Filter is much easier to get at than the 5.4 on my Dad's '99 Expedition.

Hmmm? Interesting comment. I know my F250SD 5.4L has a vertical oil filter and the cooler hoses but I had never crawled under a F150 5.4L to see if they are different. You are probably right and they are different. Learn something new every day. Mine takes 6 quarts to show in the middle of the Min-Max marks where you are instructed to put it.

Hmmm... the oil filter on my 97 F150 (new style) w/ the 235 HP 5.4 was vertical.
It also had the Class III trailering pgk which included a remote oil cooler. However, it seemed that without the remote oil cooler adapter, the filter would still have mounted vertically.

6 quarts. Those marks on the dipstick are min and max oil levels. 6 quarts will bring oil level about 1/2 way between both lines.

Thanks guys,
I added about 1/4 of a quart which put it just above middle of the marks on the dipstick. I didn't realize my truck had two dipsticks..... One for the oil and the one working at Jiffy Lube!
All is good.

I have used 6 qts. each change which brings the oil almost exactly to the middle of the "thatched" area on the dipstick. I am not burning any noticeable oil between changes so I do not fill any higher.
Hello. I went thru this with my truck when it was new. The dealer serviced it and used 7 qts. oil. Upon further investigation, with Ford Motor Co. the final answer was 6 qts. as the owner manual says. "NO MORE", It will fill to about middle of dipstick.
