How many total miles can you put a V-10 before problems start?

I'm looking at used Excursions and I'm trying to figure out how many miles are too many miles?

Re: How many total miles can you put a V-10 before problems start?

Well, the modular engines are VERY good. In fact, they have the lowest warrenty cost per engine of all engines sold in the USA according to industry publications. They have also made the "Top 10 list of best engines" three times in the last ten years.

I have limited experience with the V-10 specifically, but they really are a 5.4L V-8 with two extra cylinders and a pair of balance shafts added. The 4.6L and 5.4L will routinely go over 300,000 miles before overhaul if they are not completely abused.

Re: How many total miles can you put a V-10 before problems start?

About 95k and haven't touched anything of concern. I did change the plugs at about 60k. IAC (i think) acted up about 2 years ago, rough idle for about 45 seconds, bought a new one but the ploblem cleared up on its on.

Only other nusiance is a SES light. Code is a egr thing if I recall. Also found some info that it could just be the sensor.

Re: How many total miles can you put a V-10 before problems start?

I had 220,xxx miles on my 2000 f-350 v-10 when i traded it in on the stroke. The only thing was basic up keep. I had a couple coil packs and a water pump replaced. Other than that it was a good motor. Didnt leak a drop. If I didnt buy a bigger car trailer I would have kept it.

Re: How many total miles can you put a V-10 before problems start?

My dad has 200,000 on his truck. Only thing he has ever replaced is the fuel pump. Truck still runs good and the most amazing part to me is the oil in his engine is always gold like it was just out of the bottle. I haven't had a lot of problems with my diesel but I have had more problems then his gasser.
