Hypertech Power Programmer

does anyone know when Hypertech plans on coming out with this for the V10? I have heard from local shops, "within 90 days." I have sent several e-mails to Hypertech and either get no response or one that says "we don't make it."

for some reason, Hypertech won't tell me when or even if they plan on coming out with this.....

basically, i have decided that a chip is crap, a truspeed might be ok, but really like the idea of being able to "deprogram" before taking the truck in for service.

Re: Hypertech Power Programmer

Hypertech has been going to release a PP for the Ford V8's for the past 3 years.... still hasn't arrived. I doubt you see one for the V10 anytime soon. The various responses to you inquiry should also alert you to the kind of service you can expect from them post-sale.

What makes you think that chips are "crap"?

Re: Hypertech Power Programmer

thanks nomo.

looks like your right about hypertech..... if they can't work with me pre-sale, then they surely won't give a flying f!!k about me post sale.... hummmmm.

the reason i think chips are "crap" is due to i keep reading that there is really only a 5% or less performace gain to be had from them (ppl in this forum seem to have reported this from actual dyno tests on their trucks).

with the truspeed being $300 less and getting everything but the small performance gains (i.e. speedo correction, odo correction, firmer shift points)....

so... my assesment is that a chip is crap.... any constructive arguments to the contrary would be appreciated.....

the power programmer looked good to me since i would not have to cut, splice, change chips, or anything like that..... just plug in and reprogram... then when it's time to take to the dealer..... deprogram and no questions asked from them, no denial of service from them, etc.... even if it were a tad bit more expensive than teh chips, that piece of mind would be important and worth it to me.

as for arguments against a chip regarding premimum fuel.... no worries to me.... i run it anyways..... i find that i get WAY better response with it and slightly better gas milage (maybe not enough to pay the extra cost, but never the less).

Re: Hypertech Power Programmer

Not sure where you've been shopping for chips, but you should try here. I really don't think you'll beat the price or the service. I've bought 3 from Mike and will get my 4th from him when I'm ready to chip this truck.

For some engines, chips do more than just add power. Our Expedition (it's really my wife's) runs MUCH cleaner with the chip. What I mean is that without the chip, the exhaust pipes get black and sooty. With the chip, they are as clean as can be... a result of more efficient combustion. There are no MPG improvements, but she drives it pretty hard.

As for performance at only 5%, my wife refuses to run her Expedition "un-chipped". When gas reached it's highest price this year, she let me pull the chip for only 1 tank. Even if it's only 5%, that's still 15HP more than you have now. I say give Mike a call and discuss it with him. Be sure to ask about the 30 day money-back guarantee.

Re: Hypertech Power Programmer

I too, like the idea of the PP III. I e-mailed Hypertech after not finding one listed on their website. Received that they don't yet make one for the 2000 and up V10's, but eventually will offer one.

They had a 'help wanted' for programmers, or electronic engineers on their site. Maybe good help is hard to find!
