I realize my IAC is going out like some of the others at around 50k. It's doing it worse now. I don't have the time this week to pick up a new one and install it. Right now it only idles rough when the engine is cold. After I run the motor for 10-15 seconds it'll idle like there is no problem at all. Is this as bad as it gets or will it eventually not idle even when warmed up? When ordering do the parts guys know the term IAC (Idle Adjustment Control????)
I just picked on up last night. 88K and mine finally went out.....actually I just got tired of having to hold my foot on the peddle for 5 min to make it idle.
Take you VIN # in with you when you go to get it. The "intelligent" parts guys I got mine from said there are a bunch of calibration codes that might make a difference.....even though there is only one part number for the IAC valve. I paid $80.00...which is more that I thought it was going to be. I might try to just take my old one off, clean it up, and see if that helps...then go get my $80 back!!!
RobSD- They can go either way, bad, then worse, then dead, or just plain die outright. If you want to talk knowledge with the parts guy, start off on the high side, it is Idle Air Control valve.
I was in same boat as LVNITUP, more than one valve, special ordered. Wrong one. One on the shelf all along was right Take it off and bring it in (another vehicle obviously) or do it on site at the dealer (if they let you). Two ten mill bolts and a connector (ackward spot though). Cleaning mine did not help.
Stan- I'll bet an auto store would get it at the dealer and mark it up, but you can ask. There are some companies doing after market emmisions parts (O2 sensors, EGR valves, etc)
Well I picked up one today. The problems seems to get worse fast, especially with the colder weather. I orderd the part for a '99 v10, truck built in June of 99 so it's a 99.5. He didn't need the vin or anything. The P/N is YC2Z*9F715*CA. Description is "VALVE A" Price was $69.72 (plus tax) at Tommy Vaughn in Houston.
Pretty simple looking thing. The solenoid with a plug, cast aluminum flange. The flange has two air passages, one going through the valve and the other end straight through to what looks to connect to a hose. So it looks like it's just redirecting some air flow.
I did have a look at mine the other day, way in the back under the body a big. Yep looks a bit tight to change out. I'll probably swap plugs at the same time.
Rob, as I recall a 1/4" ratchet and about a six inch extension works best for one bolt, then like a one or two inch extension for the other. If you have a widget that goes on the ratchet extension that you use your fingertips with like I have it is a LOT easier. A good visual of what I am talking about would be a silver dollar welded flat to an extension.. Good luck! Though I think the plugs are a different ballgame for a different day.
A couple warnings. Don't drop the bolts. I did and it vanished into the maze of intake runners. Watch out for the vacuum line comming off the throttle body. After I did my repair I noticed that I split the 90 degree elbow by leaning on the tubing. It's a pain to reach way back there! Anyway, there was enough left to make a splice. Oh, and I was lucky enough to tear the gasket too...
