Re: IAC valve?

Yep, sounds like the IAC. It's an easy job to change it and shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. It's on the passenger side on the back of the throttle body. Pull off the hose, disconnect the electrial connector and remove the two bolts holding it on. To reinstall just reverse the procedure and torque the bolts to 71-89 lb/in.

Re: IAC valve?

Easy to find.. difficult to access. Not alot of room back there. I did get it off and it was dirty. Some black crud on the intake side. Oh and lots of fine powdery dust in the tube. 75k miles worth. Makes me wonder just what the K&N is doing(or not doing) More on this later. Luck wasn't on my side today. 1. Dropped one of the bolts into the never never land below the intake manifold. 2. Split open a vacuum line where it attatches to the manifold. It's the one with an elbow with 3-4 plastic lines comming out of it. Guess I pushed on the lines while reaching in there. I was able to slide it over a coupler and put a small hose clamp over the split and then added a short piece of hose from there to the port. 3. Dropped the gasket into the afore mentioned never never land but was able to get it out... Whew! 4. Proceded to rip the gasket while attempting to reinstall the cleaned valve. I get the feeling I will be removing the valve in the near future regardless if it works now or not. Good thing is it started up OK... Not really cold out yet.. Will have to try in the AM.

Re: IAC valve?

Doesn't sound like you had a very good day at all. I tried cleaning mine and it worked fine for a month or so and started to act up again.
Now that you mention it, I remember being worried about dropping something down below the intake manifold and I think I stuck a piece of paper or something under it just in case if I did drop something. Although, I can't remember for sure. It looks like it would be a pita to find.
I dunno what tools you all have or what you used to get the bolts out but, I found a little 1/4" rachet and a couple different sized extensions seemed to work the best. I wish you better luck if you take it off again.

IAC valve?

Ok, I just re-read all the old posts about sticking IAC valves. I think I have it. Actually, more than one post discribed to a T the same problem I'm having.

On a cold start, the truck won't idle. When I start it, it just dies out. If I give it the gas as I start it it will run as long as I don't let off the gas. Been doing this on and off for 4 days now. This morning, I noticed that while I was holding the gas, all of a sudden it seemed like the truck took over. The idle got a tad faster and smoothed out. I let up and it idled fine there after. I'm guessing that the valve became un-stuck. After the truck can idle on it's own, it runs fine and starts fine. Am I on the right track?

I'm way out of factory warranty but have an aftermarket warranty with a $50 deductable. I'd rather just buy the part and change it myself. Looks like it's $68-80 and no one has it in stock. It will take 1-7 days to get it! Any tips or other ideas would be helpful. I'm assuming I can find the darn thing and chnage it myself.. Re: IAC valve?

Sure sounds like the same problem I've had. I think I scared mine into working right by taking it back to the dealer. They couldn't duplicate the problem, and claimed to have done nothing, but it hasn't acted up since.
