Howdy fellow gassers! I thought I'd get some feedback on my project truck, since it is a unique regular cab truck, and please no bashing the 5.4, it was only 23K!
I am thinking of doing a 4 or 6 inch lift with 36" SSR's as my "play tires", since I need more ground clearance for off roading. I don't know about you guys, but I four wheel the truck seriously (in Moab with 1000 miles on it last year) and just last weekend scraped the t-case skidplate twice, and that's on a 138"wb truck. The truck by the way does not look as bad a a Qwest service truck!
I know overdrive will be useless, for it was with the 315 Big O's I briefly had. I don't want to regear a LEASED!! truck to 4.56's (bike shop write off) but thought I can swap the mods over to a future V-10 shortbed SC 4.3 ratio in 2 years when the lease is up, a good justification for the wife! I would use the 255's on the stock alloys for everyday use. Will the truck look silly with a 4 to 6" lift with those skinny 32" 255's?
In the near future, I plan to extend the tranny and front axle breathers to a higher place on the firewall, and currently, I have the topper off with a tailgate net to easily transport my XR400. I have my welder friend making high lift jack mounts on my custom 4x8" rear bumper, which has a higher departure angle than the flimsy stock bumper and factory receiver.
Check my sig and give me your thoughts, sorry for the long post, I know this belongs in another area, but don't want to be nailed too badly by the oilburners! I need to learn Smilies, too. By the way, if anyone needs bicycles or mtn bike related parts, access., give me a shout.
Mike

Hey, two questions. What size lift looks good on the 5.4s. ive been pondering boh fro awhile now. the second question is whats the name of your welder buddy? Becuase ive gfot a 3rd cousin that works at a mill shop. Thought maybe they could be the same guy.
Sean- The lift would look like any other SD except you would get about an extra half inch of lift with the lighter engine since Superlift does one 4' spring for all trucks. I had to do it after falling in love with a f-350 Regular cab Diesel lariat that had 6" and 38" swampers. I saw it at Frontier truck in Littleton. Sunday is the big day for the install. My welder guy is a bike frame builder, Hargadon Custom Cycles. He is finishing up on the 4"x8" rear bumper that will have a removeable spare tire carrier that swings out, with a hi-lift and can mounts, with a much higher departure angle than the stock bumper/ receiver. I am sick of scraping the hitch. Stop by next week at Arapahoe Cyclery if you want to see probably the only lifted reg. cabber gasser in existience!
