My beautiful new truck with 7000 miles on it got rear ended today. I took a pretty good hit, the late model Dodge 1/2 ton that hit me was doing a good 25mph in wet weather on slick roads. He couldnt stop soon enough for the conditions.
The body suffered minimal damage, the bumper is folded under the truck and the reciever took most of the hit, it folded too, resting right up against the spare. It looks as if the body damage was behind the bumper and it did curl the lip of the frame that the bumper mounts to.
Should i be concerned with any other damages? The truck never skipped a beat, but should I worry about other components (electrical) etc?
I know it took quite a hit! I was rocked pretty good, with minor whiplash and now 7 hrs later I'm getting pretty sore, starting to tighten up.
What hurts me the worse is my $31000 truck and what ever I'm getting into there with repairing it.
Any opinions on not getting screwed by the Body Shop? I will go in tommorrow and start the process, try to get a rental truck so I can tow my TT next week, and hopefully get my pride an joy back in shape.
What should I be looking for?

Sorry to hear about your baby. It's been 6 weeks since I got nailed head-on and I still don't have her back. Just be glad it was the truck that took the brunt of it and not you. My truck should be home next week and I can't wait (superduty withdrawl is BIG). I couldn't get any rental to replace my truck. Icould either get a vehicle that carries my family and gear (Windstar) or a Uhaul pickup to pull my TT. Something about liability. Good luck on the repairs and feel some comfort knowing you're not the only one suffering.

Too bad about the truck- at least you're mostly OK. Those were some pretty heavy rains that moved through. Lots of accidents here in Tulsa as well.
When you go around getting estimates, be sure to check out the shop. Paint booths and work areas should be clean except for the dust they kick up that particular day. A dirty shop will yield dirty paint. Also make sure that all the replacement parts are Ford. Some of the "aftermarket" parts are better, but most are not. Call some of the local car clubs and ask who they recommend.
Finally, do NOT accept the truck until it is PERFECT. If you accept it with promises of making things "right" later, those things will most likely never get fixed. And, unless those promises are in writing (and they won't be), there is no legal course of action to persue in order to actually get the repairs done. Basically, when you drive the truck out of the shop, you are "stating" that the repairs that are done to your satisfaction.
Having owned a body shop for 25 years I would say that most body shops are not out to screw you. (That is the Ins.Co. and adjusters job.)
Taking a hard hit on the frame rails like that I would make sure they check the frame alignment. Truck frames tend to bend in the mid section. Check the cab to box gaps to see if they are even on both sides.
If the box sides need to be replaced make sure they use proper techniques to prevent rust as box sides are welded on.
I don't think they will try to push aftermarket parts since it is such a new truck. Insurance companies have been getting sued big time for making body shops put that junk on so they have backed off.
If the wiring harness was damaged it should be replaced.
When completed make sure everything is aligned properly and gaps are even.
Phil

INSIST upon genuine FoMoCo body parts. That is what you were driving, and what you should end up with. Don't let the adjuster specify aftermarket, lower cost parts.

Mid-year last year my truck was whacked pretty good. It was parked on the side of the road and the lady hit the back bumper at an angle, bounced off, hit the back tire, quarter panel, bounced off again, hit the front fender and bumper and dragged the truck 10 feet. She missed the drivers side doors; however. She then ended up plowing through about 30 feet of my brothers chain link fence and hitting an oak tree which finally stopped her. According to her she was only going 15 MPH...(YEAH RIGHT!)
Anyway, both bumpers had to be replaced, new truck bed, new rear leaf spring(she bent the F350 leaf pack!!! ), two new tires, two new wheels, paint entire left side of truck, hood, bed, and $5000 later my truck was just like before the accident. Except for that now the VIN has an accident recorded on it for things such as carfax.com reports.
The body shop put it through every type of test including frame allignment, and sonic testing. (They use a device to send sonic waves through parts to make sure there are no cracks or damage.) I was given a copy of every report. Also, they used genuine FOMOCO parts for everything which explains the $5000 bill. Thank god for insurance.
My insurance ended up paying for the truck even though it was her fault, but she didn't have insurance...
Also, my brother's homeowners insurance had to pay for the damage to his yard and fence, again because she didn't have insurance.
The worst part was driving an economy rental car for a month...
