K&N Drop In Bad? vs. M.A.S.?

I am getting reports from others and my FORD service manager friend, that putting the K&N drop in filter in our V-10's is not the thing to doo, in fact its not IF it will screw up the MAS due to the oil getting sucked into it, but WHEN!! ................. anyone experieinced this? I bought this dually with the K&N and I am going back to a good FRAM paper filter.................................

I've had a K&N filter in my truck for just over 55,000 miles with no problems. I have cleaned and re-oiled it once and probably applied too much oil which is the main cause of MAS failure. That was about 20,000 miles ago and I've never had any problems with my MAS.

I've had my K&N dropin on my 2008 V-10 for almost 18k and all it did was give me 1 mpg...but I'll take it. No problems whatsoever with it. I also added the Diablo Sport programmer and love it too. No difference in mileage, but power is much better as is towing.

I put one in about a month ago or so and I noticed no difference in power, mileage, or throttle. I can hear it when I get down on it, but thats about it. I have the whole air intake kit, not just the filter, not sure if that makes a difference to what you were first referring to.

From what I have read, the V-10's from 1999 to 2005 all will benefit from intake, exhaust, Y-pipe and programmers. From 2006-present, not much improvement over stock with mods, except for some programmers. From 2006-present, factory went with a nice set of headers, twin cats and the computer is set for maximum hp. Add to that the 5 speed TS tranny and you have a real winner for power and towing. Mileage is another issue and if you want a mileage pickup, go for the F-150 or Ranger as the F-250/350 is a tow rig.

That is what I did. Mine is not a daily driver anymore. I went and bought a 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup. 25mpg in the city. The power programmer gave me an instant 2 more mpg though on my F-350.

Pappy, I am no stranger to towing, mileage or that the F-250/350 is a tow rig ( I've had 5 of them). To just say "get a XblankX for mileage" is a cop-out, to always strive for better efficiency is what "motor-heads" doo !

More efficient also means more power, and we all love that!! I enjoy modifing and making my machines the best they can be. That is my passion.

oh! & p.s. ..... who's the smarty pants that tagged this thread with the "K&N" advertisement touting no MAS's ever damaged. Pretty cheesy & insulting, I never said "damaged" go read my original post. I said "screwed" them up, if you think oil & electronics are compatible, then you don't know much about computers nor electricity. I would more highly value a longtime knowledgeable FORD service manager, who happens to be a good friend and horsepower junkie who deals with these machine's day in & day out, than a company that is just in business to sell an aftemarket product. I think "K&N" is a superior product ( I have their stuff in 3 of my 4 outfits), however, I doubt they would ever admit to an issue even if only with certain model trucks.

Just get some mass air sensor cleaner from wal-mart or basically any auto parts store. Spray off the thin wire in the sensor and go on your way. Simple as that. You sensor isn't "screwed" due to the oil. It just needs to be cleaned.
