Larger tires and towing

Just wondering if 285/75/16 size tires on a V10 + 3.73 auto is going to affect towing much on grades and steep hills?
Thanks.

Re: Larger tires and towing

I cannot answer your question, as I have sort of the same problem. I want to let the 16 year old in me out with a new F250 I'm going to order, probably when the '02 models become available. I want to be sure that the 3.73 gears are capable of skinning up the tires with 285- to 315-size tires installed--whatever will fit w/o a lift. The 3.73 gears spun the factory tires for about 10-15 feet in a truck I test drove. I really think I need the 4.30 gears to play hot rod. I think you'll find the following helpful: www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html

Re: Larger tires and towing

The 285s are only about 1" (3%) taller than the OEM tires. Not enough to make a huge difference unless the load is at/near max capacity.
