The little noise that could

Just picked my truck up from the dealer tonight, and the sound I took it in for is still there. I'll try to describe it the best I can. When you give it gas there is a rubbing sound (seems to me from the front end) that changes with RPM. Its not the engine because it doesn't do it in nuetral. It does not do it in reverse either. The dealer replaced the whole transmission and the front hubs. You can also feel it in the floor when driving slow. I have a few ideas what it might be, but obviously my dealer is clueless. I really appreciate any ideas you guys might have.

Rubbing.......hmmmm...RPM dependant (road speed too, I assume), no sound in neutral (not rolling, I assume (again)), feel it in the floor..., New tranny & hubs...Let's see...best guess...

Brakes?

I thought brakes too....does it when you come to a stop and doesn't seem to depend on braking pressure either. Thnaks for trying though. Rick

Are your Hubs Manual, if so are they locked in??? If yes to these Questions, front driveshaft balance or Yolk going in to Trnnsfer??? I'm no pro, but this was problem with my 95 F250. Sounds very similar to yours. Hope this helps????

Re: The little noise that could

I've got the auto ESOF set-up. I got under the truck tonight and gave the drive shaft a turn and noticed that it was free, but didn't turn as smooth as my '97 did. The dealer said something was wrong with the hubs, but I'm not putting very much faith into the techs. Oh well, I got a free tranny and hubs so far I thought about the u-joints and the yoke, but the thing that gets me is it only does it when you go forward. Thanks, Rick

Re: The little noise that could

Mine was "weird". When the Hubs were locked in it was quite loud the faster you went the louder it got.(No Prob with unlocked hubs). Sounded like rubbing. Not a big deal until I moved to Alaska, and had to drive with hubs locked in all the time. Took her in and they dropped front shaft and did something with the yoke????? Originally they said drive shaft balance, but that was before they looked at it.

On a side note they fixed it great, but the next summer after driven her down a very rough beach to go fishin. I think it was startin up again??? I sold her for a crew cab(PSD)!?!?!?! Sand in somethin?? I thought that's what did it the first time to mine, when I was duning in Utah???????????

Re: The little noise that could

Ok, it does it in reverse also, guess I wasn't going fast enough. To me it sound like it's coming from the t-case. My neighbors probably think I'm crazy, I've been driving around the culdesac leaning way out the window trying to see if I can hear exactly where it coming from. Rick
