Re: locking diffs.

My factory limited slip seems to work just fine. I've never had one wheel spin when the other wasn't also spinning. Just to try it out, I once wedged a short piece of 4x4 under the axle at the spring u-bolts and drove up on it. This lifted one wheel completely off the ground! I did have to use the parking brake to load the axle though.

It depends on the configuration of the truck. If he's getting a V10 or a super/crew cab, then I think the diffs are the same. The difference otherwise would be 2-pinion vs 3-pinion.

If you really want a "locker", then ARB is the only choice for street-driven vehicles. Be ready for sticker-shock, though. They are quite expensive.

If they make one, I'd get an Auburn Pro limited slip. The cone clutches will wear out after a while, but they have better traction than a lot of other limited slips.

Re: locking diffs.

I've used Detroits for years in many different applications, they are noisy, harsh, affect handling, chirp the tires often and wear out your rubber quicker than the other types.

They never break and you will not spin one tire unless you snap an axle.

There are no compressors, switches, wires or air lines to fail.

I would definately go with an ARB for the front diff over a Detroit if you are considering locking that but for my rear I chose to put up with the drawbacks of a Detroit because of it's reliability.
