Manual Transmission "hissing" noise in OD

I have about 27k miles on my truck and have just started noticing a noise that sounds like an air leak or vacuum leak when I am in 5th gear. My son and I both heard it at the same time when it started about 2K miles ago.

Does anyone have a similar problem?

I have almost the same rig as yours and close to the same manufacture date, it has 34k on it and I just started getting the same noise from mine.
I also would like to know if you have the clunking in the drive line, Ford calls it driveline wind up.
It is really obnoxiuos.
Thanks Cowpoke

I don't have the hissing sound, but I only have 13000 on the beast. Have had the clunking in the drive line from day 1. Drove me crazy. I finally learned to live with it. This is by for the most noisy vehicle that I have ever owned. If I can get 150000 out of it, I'll be happy to buy another one, but if not, good bye Ford (forever).

Cowpoke, I have the windup problem. I noticed it the first time I drove the truck. I don't like the sound of it much either. There was a fairly extensive discussion on the subject a few months ago. Lot of people had it. Nobody reported any acutal failure from it. Just an obnoxious sound. I have found that the gears tend to "grind" if you select a new gear while the drive line is "unwinding".
