Ok I am going with the V10 so last question is this: is there a big difference between the 4:30 and 3:73 rear ends as far as gas mileage and power? I will be empty 95% of the time with stock 265 tires and the 5% will be hauling a 32 ft. fifth wheel 60 miles 6 times a year. CC 4x4 auto shortie. Thanks.

My 01 350 CC V10 has 4.30, awesome power. The Ford towing guide rates the 3.73 at 3,000 lbs less towing capacity. If I wanted good gas mileage, I would have bought a Ranger.
GO WITH THE 4.30!!! IMHO
unless your loads are VERY heavy the 373s are quite adequate. i drove both and much preferred the 373s .the 430s, while having slightly increased power, also had noticabley higher NVH levels due to approx 300 more rpms at hiway speeds .also most posts report a drop of 1-2 mpgs overall. bottom line, for most applications 373 is picked.

I have 3.73's and tow a 28ft 5th wheel that weighs under 9k loaded. At times I wish I had the 4.30's, figuring it would downshift less and pull harder on the hills. It still pulls nice, outrunning my friends motor home with a 454 (They both weight about the same combined weight). But when I'm empty (which is often) I love getting 12-14+ mpg's. I think your 5th wheel weights a lot more than mine when loaded, and I would go with the 4.30's in that situation.
My sister recently purchased a truck identical to mine, except 1 year newer with 3.73 standard diff. She gets around 13-14 in town compared to my 11-12 before the mods. were done. Now its much worse than that. I did not buy it for fuel efficiency

iweb, 60 miles x 6 times per year? 4:30s are better but if you're pulling less than 1000 miles per year, go for the better mileage and get the 3:73s. Especially with SRW. Just my
