mud flaps

New truck came in today...looks great. Dealer doesn't reccomend Ford mud flaps. Any suggestions for something that is functional and looks right?

Re: mud flaps

Just curious as to why the dealer didn't recommend them.

Re: mud flaps

Maybe because they eat into the paint and then after a couple years start to break?

Re: mud flaps

I got them and they are worthless. Save your money. They don't stop that much dirt, water, mud, ect. from getting on your truck. Also if they are like mine the front tires will rub them every time you turn. My soon to be father in law has the same problem on his superduty.

Re: mud flaps

I'm also curious why the dealer was not pushing his own product. I put the factory flaps on my new truck since they seemed OK on my 99 Crew Cab.

If they rub the front wheels, remove the inner spacer and cut it down untill it clears. I think I had to cut it in half This should provide enough room for the stock Steeltex AT tires. That's what worked for me.

Re: mud flaps

Just posted this in Towing and Hauling. Not sure if it will help you or not??

If you have Slide in camper mounts, you can bracket some mud flaps and slide them on and off as you need them!! I don't have a slide in, and truck came with the brackets welded on to the hitch, so I found a use for them!! I got them to better protect my trailer from rocks those oversize tires throw. The regular flaps just don't cut it. I personally don't care for the looks of big flaps on the truck all the time. This way I can have my cake and eat it too!!! See pic's for set up.

Re: mud flaps

I have Husky brand mud flaps and love em. They are custom molded and come with plastic paint protectors to go between them and the paint. I think I paid about $50 a pair.

Re: mud flaps

Buy some plain black mudflaps, and some 1/16 flat galvanized steel. Then pick up some small stainless bolts with flat and lock washers, and lock nuts. Then make mounts for the flaps out of the steel and mount them in the wheel well. Both my dad and I have done them. They work like real mudflaps should work, and they look good too. He has a 2000 superduty.
