Need 5.4L info re oil pressure gauge

I've been spelunking around this 5.4L "hybrid" engine in my Y2K F-250 for the best locations to install the sensors for oil temp, trans temp, and oil pressure gauges. I say "hybrid" because this thing has eight cylinders but looks more like a V-10 than the 5.4 they put in 150s and Expeditions. Removing and teeing off of the existing oil pressure sensor would be very hard as it is occluded by various frame parts. I noticed a plug underneath the rearmost freeze plug on the driver's side that looks like it takes a 10mm hex wrench to remove. This would be perfect unless there is something behind it. Anyone know? Where did everyone else put, or have put, this sensor (and the others as well)?

I've got the Chilton, Ford, and Haynes manual most closely related to this engine and none is very specific. This is common for Chilton but an unpleasant surprise from Ford. I wish Haynes would put out a SD manual but they say there just isn't the demand.

Informed advice invited.

Re: Need 5.4L info re oil pressure gauge

re trans temp sensor -- two common locations are in the trans oil output line, and the left side trans housing port. Reports indicate you may get a higher reading from the former. Lots of discussion on this topic in the "Engine & Drivetrain" and "Upgrade and Aftermarket" forums -- just do a search.

For what it's worth, I plan to do mine in the Spring (not much more towing planned for the Winter, and I already have my automatic trans cooler fan installed), and my first choice will be to install the sensor in the hi-temp oil line that comes out of the trans and leads to the oil-to-water cooler located in the bottom of the coolant radiator. I'm looking at the Perma-Cool kit (P/N 10677)that includes a trans oil filter as well as a temp guage.

Re: Need 5.4L info re oil pressure gauge

I went with the port for the trans. I am aware the difference is about 15 degrees and more stable in the body but with quicker spikes in the out going line set up.

Engine oil: I have heard there are some available ports in the engine oil cooler if you have the towing package. This is right above the oil filter. I haven't investigated yet but thats where I would start
