Need Some Information/Help

I have a friend that has a 99 (Nov., 98 build) 350 cab/chassis/DRW/6Sp
total milage 45,000 (transmission has extended warrenty due to replacement up to about 46,000)
He has had a couple of recurrent problems and since I am unfamiliar with gassers, I need your help.

Problem 1: Steering had 'bump steer' and dealer put in shock on steering. Is there a TSB for this, and is this normal procedure?

Problem 2: (Major) Tranny jumps out of 2nd gear when parked. (with parking brake on.) Has been to dealer numerous times, but dealer will not work on it anymore. Within the last couple of months, his truck 'rolled' into another persons car. Engine off, in 2nd, with parking brake on. It jumped out of gear and rolled. Any and all help here is appreciated. **SIDE NOTE: This tranny has been replaced because of a previous problem with it 'grinding' going into reverse and 2nd.

Problem 3: truck weight is 9500 +/- (has utility body) So far, his tires have only lasted an adverage of 15 to 18000. Anyone with the similar experiance or any suggestions?

Problem 4: Since the replacement of the tranny, the clutch pedal has been extremely high (almost to the dash) MOST of the time. On occasion, the pedal goes to the original stock position.

Any and all help is appreciated. If you have information that might not be appropriate to post, please email me. (Information is in bio)

Many thanks,

Re: Need Some Information/Help

Not sure how much help I'm going to be but no one else has responded.

My first thought is the truck was built on a Friday(thrown together Friday afternoon before everybody leaves the assembly plant) , get rid of it and start over.

I'm not 100% sure with these new trucks but in older trannies the gear shifter had springs on it in the tranny to center the shifter inbetween all gears, maybe one of the springs is tight for some reason and it's pulling the shifter out of gear? If the truck rolls with the parking brake on, then it needs to be adjusted to grab the rotors harder. Maybe park the truck in 1st gear, then it won't roll.

Tires only last 15-18K miles. Buy better tires, or lay off the right foot.

If the clutch pedal moves around then it sounds like there is some issues with a bump stop on the pedal linkage, or the hydrolics.

I'm not a mechanic, so don't quote me on any of this. I'm just responding becuase no one else has. These are things that I would look at first.

Just remember- racing stickers may add 5hp but engine chrome adds 10hp!

Re: Need Some Information/Help

None of these questions are specific to the type of engine, so you might want to repost in general questions to get more readership and hopefully more educated responses.

I'll take a shot at a few.

1) The steering stabilizer will help control "bump steering" if you mean the truck changes direction after meeting a change in road surface. I'm not aware of any TSB and am assuming this truck is 4wd. If it's 2wd, it should work as well.
2)I don't know anything about the 6 speed, but if it's popping out of gear when parked, seems like an obvious problem. The bigger issue seems to be, why isn't the parking brake holding? There have been numerous threads addressing this in the general questions forum. Either way, have him find a better mechanic at a different dealership.
3)A buddy of mine has a 97 dump body 2wd that goes through tires rapidly. The twin i beam front end doesn't particularly like the changing weight distribution and he eats front tires especially.
4)Can't help with the clutch since mine isn't a hand shaker.

I tried my best...
