ok i want to put in a 2-1/2 inch leveler in front and the F-350 4 inch rear blocks. what i am wondering is if i need to buy new shocks, and if so how would i know which ones to get. they will be the Bilstiens(sp?) if i do need new ones.
I already replaced the shocks on my truck with RS9000's and my truck came with the 4" rear blocks. There are no different part #'s listed for rear shocks based on block height so you don't need to worry about it. I also plan to have my front springs re-arched to level the truck so I checked the length on the front shocks when I installed them and the Ranchos are plenty long but I did not check this with the stockers so you should have a competant suspension specialist check it out for you or E-mail me and I will explain how to you. docmatt1952@Ak.net

WhiteSuperDuty, Are those blocks you're talking about standard issue on the Super Duty? Are they the same width as the springs and the mounting pad on the axle?
The reason I ask is that since I've owned my 2wd Excursion, I've always thought the rear end sat a little on the low side for my liking. The stance of the 2wd vs. the 4wd is quite different. The 4x4 is about 1.5" higher in the back end than the 2wd. A lot of guys are lifting the front of the 4x4s to 'level' them out.
I looked into air bags, but with the weight distributing hitch on my trailer adjusted properly, the Ex sits as level (low) as it does unloaded. I finally ordered 1" cast iron blocks from Hellewig, and they are about 1/2" narrower than the springs and mounting pads. I'm not sure if this will make any difference, but if I had my druthers I'd want them as wide.
I guess I'll call them in the morning.

The blocks I am referring to might be different on the SD versus an Ex. I do know that the rear blocks on a F-250 are just under 2 inches, so I call them 2, and the rear blocks on a F-350 are just under 4 inches, so I call them 4. As for the Ex. they might use a totally different blocks. I personally am going to get the F-350 blocks from my dealer, just so I can keep them Ford. I am hoping the he will swap them out for free, as I've heard of this from others here. Otherwise I've been told that they will run about $70 for blocks and U-bolts(need longer U-bolts for longer blocks).
WhiteSuperDuty-Life expectancy of components such as shocks can vary quite a bit. My stock shocks were in good shape when I took them off at almost 30K. Depending on how you use your truck, road conditions, and climate where you live the factory skocks may last 80K or more. However, I have a friend whose are already shot on his very simlar truck (99 F350 SD SC SB SRW) with less than 20K. I switched for the added control when carying my camper (2500#) while also pulling 5000# of trailer over Alaskan roads (rough). BTW are you running your stock wheels? The friend I mentioned earlier wants to upgrade from stock tires and wants to go with 315's and aftermarket wheels but he is concerened about tire clearance.

DR. Matt- i am running stock wheels, but there is a little rubbing.
A.- on the right side on the spring when turned locked to the right. but you do have to turn tight before it rubs.
B.- on the mud flap when turning as the wheel passes by it. its very minimal, but with aftermarket tires, that have a slight offset, this may translate into moderate to heavy rubbing, they might not even clear.
-other than that there is no problem driving everyday with them. I want a lift because i like that extra height of the F-350
With the wheels and tires I'm running, as listed below, I get rubbing only on the drivers side inner fender. No damage to either tire or truck.

Some stock stuff, some modded stuff, some deleted stuff.....
I have a 2001 F250 CC SWB with the 4" blocks in the rear and a BDS 2.5" leveling kit. I am running 315 BFG ATs on 8" Centerline wheels. I get a sight bit of rubbing on one spring at full lock. I think this is due to the fact that the BDS kit does not have a track bar relocation bracket, so my front axle is slightly off center. On my 99 F250, I had a similar setup on my 99. I used the 2" Superlift on the front. That one had a trac bar bracket. I ran 35x12.50x16.5 BFG MTs on 8" AE589 wheels. Absolutely no rubbing on that one.
