I've been playing with Ford's vehicle configuration tool on their website. Every time I spec a Superduty with a limited slip axle, it forces me to change to the auto tranny. Is a limited slip axle not available with the 6 spd? What's up with that??
Interesting. Back in 2000 the story for F250 was:
5.4L + auto I think could get 3.73ls
5.4L + manual could not get 3.73ls
5.4L + auto could get 4.10LS
5.4L + manual could get 4.10LS (what I have)
6.8L + auto could get 3.73LS
6.8L + manual could not get 3.73LS
6.8L + auto could get 4.30LS
6.8L + manual could get 4.30LS
-------------------------------------------------
This sortof implies:
a. 5.4L + 3.73LS + any tranny would be available.. The Ford source book would know for sure. This would be a change from what was offered in 2000..
b. the 3.73LS requires auto if you have the 6.8L (which contradicts someones post here. He should verify that he really has LS).
c. the 4.30LS can be had with either auto or manual with the 6.8L
---------------------------------
In your config tool, try specifying the 4.10LS if your getting the 5.4L + manual (which I would recommend the 4.10 anyway). Or if your getting the 6.8L + manual, specify the 4.30LS, which I think it would take.
I believe that the 350 SRW is available with 3.73 LS ,,
where as the 250 is not. Go figure! Isn't it the same axle?
Anyway all 4.30 are Limited slip
ohh.. speaking only of the V10 6-speed here
Good point on the F250 vs F350.. I just looked at the F350 options and there it says the 3.73LS is available with the 6.8L.
So, maybe you'll want to go to the F350. The difference in cost is probably less than if you put your own LS diff in the truck.
