Re: NY trip MPG REPORT

Interesting I can load three ATV's pull the camper and get 13 in the mountains of Co. General empty highway driving along the front range I only get 10.5 maybe as good as 12. I have always thought it interesting that laoded in the higher altitudes I get better milage. I would agree that the tempuratures had some to do with it but I generally run loaded like this in the summer when the temps are in the upper 70's in mountains.

Re: NY trip MPG REPORT

I'm not sure whats wrong. With the 4x2 you should get better gas milage. I owned a 2000 4x2 Excursion for about 9k miles. When I traded it, it was getting 11/16 city/highway. I have a 4x4 now with about 30K and with K&N replacment filter, 3.73LS and Mobil 1, am getting 14.5 calculated running 75 mph in moderate weather. Colder weather usually decreases mileage. I get the same as you in pure city driving 10 - 12 miles with stop lights.

Re: NY trip MPG REPORT

WHATS WRONG???? HELP!!!!!!And I thought I was doing good..
They (ford) says everything works fine and I see no problems, truck runs the same as day one.
You(Pharmer) ever put anything in yours?? I always have it loaded with Tools or people.atleast 1.5k lbs.extra.

Any help to get an extra 2 to 4 MPGs would do me and my family good $$

But I figured 11 or 12 MPG was good for moving a LARGE BRICK at 70 MPH,

Ps : Not going to a oil burner til we move to the woods.Just way to noisy and stinky as my little girl would say

Re: NY trip MPG REPORT

I have had the same experience with mileage at higher altitudes. Have a Merc with 4.6L, Had a 5.4 F150 and now V10 with 3.73 2whd.When we go to Colo Denver Ft Collins Area mileage increases from 3 to 6 mpg on all 3. Have readout on Merc and it shows it right there. Could this be the chip?? sure would like to see that improvement all the time. Any one else have experience with this???

Re: NY trip MPG REPORT

I dont think the gas was it I was still running gas from North Carolina and the altitude was only 1290 ft above sea,I thought the cold air with my many hole Zoodad plus K&N FIPK was a combo..
Maybe if I strap a block of ICE to the front of my truck I can get better MPGs
Well just wondering why...better MPGs in the north cold climate.
We will be heading that way again so I will see what happens...

Re: NY trip MPG REPORT

The difference may have something to do with the fuel you buy. Here every winter we switch to an "oxygenated" fuel. It is an alcohol blend. It does raise octaine levels but required me to rejet my old pre-computer 460 or it would be too lean. I suspect that our modern computers fatten up the mixture for us because my milage is different (worse) when running oxy fuel. If I buy gas out of town where it is not oxygenated my milage goes up. Look at the pump where you buy gas and it should say if it is blended.

Re: NY trip MPG REPORT

twinbulls,

I put on a nearly 1k miles this weekend with most of the driving on I-75 in Michigan, some two lanes, plus some 4WD on muddy roads. Trip computer ranged between 13.9 - 14.7. I reset it at each fillup and it is within a couple tenths of calculated.

Besides the K&N filter and syn. oil. I used a hole saw to open up the blind passage where the snorkel of the air intake goes into. Not the Zoodad type. I did not leave an unsightly opening when you look at the front of the vehicle. If you look in the small outside opening on the drivers side of grill I drilled the opening into the outside of the post facing out. This way, there is less chance of drawing water into the intake. The placement is just below the intake opening a couple inches. Usually loaded up with 2 adults, 5 kids and two dogs plus cargo.

Re: NY trip MPG REPORT

twinbulls,

I think there was a horsepower difference between 99 and 00. The 2000 V-10 is rated at 310hp and Ford may have tweaked a few things leading to better mileage. What axle ratio, tires do you run? Is the load bed covered? What does this poweraid spacer do, maybe its decreasing the mileage. My city mileage still is the same as yours.
