Odd Noise from under the Hood

For about a year now I have been hearing a noise that sounds like someone blowing over the top of a bottle when I accelerate from a stop light that lasted more than 30 seconds, never happened on short stops, it would last for a second or two and then stop and it is isn't very loud and doesn't happen all the time. I thought it was just the intake making the noise and didn't really worry about it much.
Last week I went to Walgreens and left the truck running while I went in, I came out and started to pull away and the sound got louder and lasted about 20 seconds so I shut down the fan and the radio and since I was in a turn I thought maybe the power steering pump. Well it has done it 3 times today, and this is the first day I have driven the truck since the last time I heard it.
I have ruled out belts, intake and power steering I think because when I pulled into work today with the wheels straight and in park it made the noise and lasted about 30 seconds during that time I turned the wheels and hit the accelerator and the sound never changed pitch.

Any Ideas from the crowd?

Cross posted on General forum also.

Yeah I thought about that but wouldn't the sound have changed pitch with the increased throttle?

Re: Odd Noise from under the Hood

Check your PCV valve. Not sure the noise you're describing is the same one mine made, but it drove me crazy for months. Pulled the line off the PCV and the noise stopped. Bad valve.
