On all of my past vehicles, I have taken them to the quick oil change joints to have oil and filter changed. I am going to start changing my own oil on my '01 F250. One reason being the ground clearance makes it much easir to do even without the need for jacking it up. My question is, how are you guys disposing of your old oil when you do your oil changes?

I've still got mine in my garage in milk jugs right now, but I was told by my neighbor that you could take it to any oil change place and give it to them. I think they're required to take it.

I am not sure anyone "has" to take it, there can be huge costs associated with removal if the oil was contaminated with gas or carb cleaner, a very common problem. Here in Kalifornia you can put one gallon out at the curbside with your trash and recyclables per week and they recycle it free. You need to call them and get the "special" bottle, a milk jug with a yellow screw on lid.
I've always had good luck taking my used oil to a quick lube type place. They even come out and pick up the container from my pickup bed and put the empty container back in the bed!
Although I'm a firm believer in doing my own PM's, I often take my rigs to a local lube shop. What's so great about this local place is that the owner can often be found in the pits at times or up top talking with his customers. One time my wife took the Jeep in and one of the employee's dropped the hood down when closing it. Well the owner raced over and took the employee by the arm and showed him the proper way in closing a vehicles hood. Then the owner apolgized to my wife. Ok getting off subject here. Milk jugs then auto store.

Here, we use those recycling boxes with absorbent material inside them and they hold 5 qts.. We're allowed to throw them in the trash because it goes to the plant where they burn the rubbish and convert it to electricity.
Vernman, what's the proper way to close a hood? I just want to check to see if I'm doing it correctly. Thanks, ibuytoys.

Well ibuytoys, from what my wife tells me the employee dropped the hood from full extention. Maybe at this lube place they instruct the employees to drop it at half extention and he forgot? I was brought up not to slam the hood down.

OK, I think I'm doing it right. Dropping it from full extension is not good. -ibuytoys
