One small step for man....

Picked up my signature SD today. Thanks for all the help from this site. I know it looks like the "you've got mail" edition but I needed max payload for a camper.

Anyway, I know you all know the feeling when you pick your truck up. Your in a daze, but trying to inspect it before delivery. Well I really looked it over, inside, out, underneath. Got it home, and then it hit me. NO CAB STEPS! nothing, just air. Cab Steps on the window sticker, but not on the truck. It's a great dealer though, I know they will make it right. But I had a couple of questions.

If by some miracle they decide to just give me some cash, and I shop for some after market steps. Can a wider, rear fender length step interfere with the forward Tork-lift frame camper tiedown or camper jack?

The stock cab step didn't look like it would give my fat lab much help getting in.

Re: One small step for man....

How do you like the V10 5 speed? I am looking at getting a F350 DRW SC 4x4 this fall, and I want the V10 5 speed. How does it do as far as acceleration? I'm guessing if i got 4.30s it would move a little quicker right? Thanks...Matt

Re: One small step for man....

I got the 5spd for downhill braking with a camper loaded. Even with the 3.73 you can take off in 2nd empty. Imagine you are at a stop light stopped taking a left. I am in 3rd before I am even pointed in direction of my turn. I can't imagine having lower(higher ratio) gears. I rarely go over 2K on the tach, but I haven't had a load yet. 55mph is about 1750. Just call me the butterfly, I spend all day in the "flutter zone". Put the Michy LTX MS Meats on today.

Re: One small step for man....

SLidein,
Great news on the truck. Hope you enjoy it. I haul my camper with the automatic tranny and was VERY surprised how well it "brakes" with minimal downshifting. I hardly ever had to use the real brakes on steep decents from many summits on a recent trip (summits ranged from 5000-10,000'). I guess you could say it was an unexpected result. I'm just too old and lazy to use a stickshift anymore.

You also might consider using "air bags" on the truck rear wheels for the camper, as they level the truck very well. (I don't know what weight you're putting in the back, so a light set-up may not need this).

Ditto on the tires. They make a nice ride over the Firebombs that come stock
