I'm the proud owner of a new '250 SuperDuty XLT SC 4x4 with a V10 (auto). Also has the offroad pak, camper pak, yadayadayada). It's pretty well loaded.
Anyway - The bank was kind enough to loan me a few extra bucks, so I thought the time was right to add some goodies for power (torque), looks, sounds, etc...
I'm thinking about a FIPK (Like the AirForce1), a chip (SuperChip?), and a CatBack (Gibson). What would you folks think of these as a package?
Extra torque for towing (5200lb boat) at high altitude (7000+ feet in Colorado Springs).
Also wondering about the dual-tail-piped Gibson as compared to the SweptSide (single). I like the looks of two pipes - is it obnoxiously LOUDER (in the cab)? I wouldn't think so....is there a power difference, or is it all looks?
I've heard that V10's sound horrid with the cat-backs...Is the Gibson gonna make my V10 sound like a Honda?
This truck is a bad-boy! Even got 12mpg on my first tank (including a trip to the lake with the boat -120miles round trip, AND a ride around town looking at houses-n-stuff).
Sure beats my -150 with the 4.6L, 5spd!!
Also looking in to a cap/topper. Any recommendations/pics to share?
I'd love to hear all your opinions...
Thanks!

jeff your right on the money (no pun intended) I spent 1600.00 on a banks system, if your looking for sound its a waste of money, if your looking for power its the way to go. go with what you want, I dont think youll be disapointed.

Go with the side swept Gibson for more torque. If you have the $$$ the stainless is the way to go. As far as sound, IMHO it is an improvement over stock. However, you will never get a V-8 like rumble from that well-balanced OHC motor. As stated elsewhere, more like a '6' on steroids.
Overall, the Gibson is quieter in the cab than stock, except under extreme acceleration. At the pipe, a BIG improvement in tone along with a good improvement in power.
BTW: Unless you have a 6' hydraulic lift,
have a Sawzall handy for removing the old exhaust, makes the job a lot easier.
The job took 1 hour, start to finish, for my truck.
I would also recommend something on the front side to allow the engine to breathe, like a K&N filter (minimum) or a complete open filter intake like the Volant or K&N Gen II (if they have one for the V10 yet).
As far as chips, I'm waiting for the PP III for the V10 from Hypertech. I like the idea of being able to modify the programming, and the ability to return to stock parameters easily for service/warranty.
Good luck with your new rig.

I have the SweptSide and the sound is great. It's no V8 but sounds good enough to me. I also have K&N Generation II intake also. It is a must have. I had a Jet stage one chip in it also. I did not notice a big difference with it in. But definety go with the exhaust and the intake.

Have been following Stan Wright's Header install - He got the Borla headers. Wonder if I'm going to have trouble with the EGR fittings? Hm.
Currently, my hopes are along the lines of being able to FEEL the difference. I'm betting I'm going to.
Since this is a new truck, I haven't put my WEB page together yet, but will start it soon, and will follow Stan's lead about taking some pics of the job(s).
Gotta question - what about the AirRaid spacer? I think I might *like* that "whistle" sound... Do they really whistle?
I fired up a Lightning at the dealer a couple of weeks ago, and love the sound of that blower! Yeah, that's what I need; A Eaton/Lightning blower for the V10!!

Okay - took some "before modification" pics and created a little WEB...check it out!
My intent is to take LOTS of pics of the installations, if anyone wants to keep an eye on me. :-)

Where did you make the cut to get the original exhaust off?
Stuff should be here any day - maybe even today!

Thought I'd post this note that I sent to Mike Troyer at "SuperChips". I've got everything installed but the headers. Below are my experiences so far! Pics are coming on my WEB site!

Mike -
Making good progress. I got the super chip yesterday while I was installing the Gibson CatBack. It afforded me the opportunity to try each of the gadgets out one at a time.
First, the CatBack was cake. Borrowed a lift, and stock exhaust came off in one piece. Took less than an hour to do the whole job. I drove it around over night and had a ball listening to that Very distinct tone. Doesn't sound like my Cobra at all, but kind've a detuned Viper...or perhaps a bit of a subdued Formula 1 car. Performance you can FEEL in your butt. As for noise, well I'd say it's just a hair louder than stock...particularly at 5000rpms (woof!).
Second was the Air Force One FIPK. While the instructions for taking the stock intake off were incredibly thorough, the installation didn't say squat. Also, the holes for the MAS gadget didn't quite line up - No problem - a 3/8" drill through the plastic, and everything slapped today. A NICE addition to the cat-back system! Performance - same as above! I could FEEL the difference, and the revs climb WAY quicker. I'm also delighted to hear that there is very little induction noise increase over stock. GORGEOUS looking installation as well - that polished stainless is sweet!
Finally, I just got back from my test-drive after installing your chip. Now keep in mind I've still got "regular" gas in it, but the difference was immediately noticed. ESPECIALLY the shift point. I always thought that the tranny was a little sluggish, now it snaps into the next gear! Took me about 20 minutes to yank the 'puter, clean the connector and slap it back in; fired right up. Recommend a pencil eraser to clean fingers. I've been doing this for 18 years at Digital (now Compaq, soon to be HP-?-).
My question is - I've got 1/3 of a tank of "regular" left. Should I burn that up, or re-fill right away and make a "mixed drink"?
Sir Edward is a 6000lb dragster. I would say that anyone who does NOT want to do headers, should do a single-cat-back, chip and FIPK. I'm very impressed, and I'm not sure the computer has even "learned" yet - would that be true?
I took TONS of pictures of the work so far, and will post them on my WEB ASAP (http://www.noizeyboize.com).
Finally, I do the headers this weekend. I bet that makes a big difference as well. One thing is that the headers have a big-threaded hole (1" or so) in them (on one side)...yet the stock exhaust does not have an EGR at all (at least that goes in to the manifolds) - there is a "boss", but no threaded hole. Should I just buy a plug and seal it up? I'll also contact Gibson directly to see what I should do. I'll advise, just FYI.
Thanks for all your help to date - this thing BARKS!
