Is it possible to switch V-10 into diesel truck? Please read

I have a 2001 f250 ext cab 4x4 with diesel. I need drive train for a crew cab 2000 i am putting together. I have a 2000 excursion v-10 4x4 for parts that is complete. If I swap all wiring, mounts, ect. is this possible? I want to sell the ext cab but not with the diesel in it. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, but you will need an engine wiring harness and ECU from a V10 pickup. The fuel system parts should transfer over. The Excursions have different ECU programming than the pickups. As an alternative you could have a dealer load a pickup program into the ECU.

Also, you will want to swap the trans too, or at least the torque converter since the TC has a lower stall speed in the diesels.

You better swap the whole trans, not just the torque converter. A trans from a 7.3L truck won't bolt to a V10.

The tranny is no problem, since I have a complete excursion. What happens if I don't have the ecu reprogrammed? I had planned on pulling the full harness out of the excursion and installing it in the f250, including the computers, fuse panels, ect.

The Excursion PCM might have Passive Anti Theft (PATS.) If it does you'll need that system out of the Excursion, too, or get the PCM reprogrammed without PATS.

I think you may run into some headaches trying to use the Excursion harness. The Excursion harness is more complex due to the additional accessories, so the connectors may not match up to the body wiring connectors on the truck.

The ECU/PCM programming is different from the Ex to the F-series because of the different body wiring and configuration. I think some of the powertrain configurations is different as well. The trucks use the rear speed sensor for the speedometer, but I'm pretty sure the Excursion uses the signal from the transmission tail-shaft speed sensor.

Maybe Mark can elaborate more?

Ford uses a different program even between the E350 wagons and E350 cutaways. I had a problem with my van occasionally going into limp mode after the Ford dealer re-flashed mine and I did not re-flash my Banks chip to match the new PCM program. If the PCM sees a signal it doesn't like, it goes into limp mode.

A re-flash at a dealer should not cost more than an hour of labor.
