I have the 2008 V-10 with a 4.10 rear, auto, Lariat, etc. I was getting around 10-11 mpg for the first 5-6k around town. I added a K&N dropin air filter and gained 1 mpg. I also added a Diablo Predator programmer and gained another 1 mpg, plus better shifting and power. I am using the 89-91 octane setting and it runs really good. I am very happy with this truck in both performance, mileage, power and the way it drives. I wouldn't change a thing from the way I ordered it.

Before I bought my PSD, I had a 98 V-10 XLT shortbed SC w/ the auto trans. I'm not sure what rear it had.

12. unloaded. At that time I was between the boat & the TT, so towing I don't know. At 300 miles I was looking for gas - any gas.

I have heard that the newer engines are getting better, but I don't know how much better.

i drive my 6.0 PSD but we own a v-10 1999 and it gets about 14-16 highway and flat out horrible in-town (6-10)... BUT it's a 4x2.. which makes a huge diff because i had a 1999 v8 triton and it got half of the v-10's because the
v8 was 4x4 off road pachage...
but for the older v-10 around 14 MPG is not bad considering the extra two pistons to pour fuel into..
newer models are getting better of course

I have an 03 F-350 Supercrew FX4 with 6" lift 35" tires, 3:73 gears with a V10. I am getting about 11-12 in the city and about 14 on the highway. But I gained 2mpg with a hypertech programmer. I pull a 22' Triton Bass Boat too, at 80mph I get 10mpg. Thats pretty good I thought for such a big truck.

My average mpg, when not towing, has been 13.99 mpg. This is the calculated average using the odometer and gas receipts since November 2007. Even though I've gotten over 15 on some tanks, I've never been able to exceed 13.99 mpg for the average over the last 9 months.

I have gotten 9.1 mpg when towing a 37' 5th wheel, with my wife, two ridgebacks and a whippet in the cab. Its dry weight is only 7830 lbs and not very tall (9'). When towing a loaded 24' race car hauler (about 6500 lbs), I got between 10.1 and 10.7. The variation was directly related to the towing speed.

The truck is a 2003 F250HD King Ranch, dual cab short bed, SRW, stock engine and 3.73 gears. The current mileage is about 86,000 miles.

Gas mileage around town/highway when not towing is primarily affected by two items: your right foot and tire pressures.

You sure you had one? In '98 the only vehicle offered with the Ford V10 were E-series vans.
