Ready to buy a Banks Exhaust (But need help, Please :-)"

As the Subject says, im ready to get the banks exhaust system. My dilema is. Should I mix and match or go all the way with Banks.

My truck:
2001 F-250 xlt 4x4 long bed
v-10 auto trans 3.73 gears

exhaust #1 Banks Stinger with Power pack (side exit tail pipe) basically the whole banks enchalada or should I go with exhaust #2 just the banks torque tubes(Headers w/ crossover) and use a Gibson cat back exhaust(daul out the back)

My concerns are this:

* Does the v10 sound funny with the gibson dauls on it, (gibson owners please reply)

* I really like the look of the duals but are they the right way to go????

* Will the gibson cat back produce less horsepower than the banks cat back (powerpack)banks owners please reply)

Please help me decide the best way to go,
all comments welcome
Thanks
Billy

I can't see how having the Gibson over Banks cat-back would make much difference. If you like the look of duals then go that route. Be sure to get the air filter and housing from Banks if you skip the Stinger system. Dollar wise you aren't going to save much by mixing and matching. The only thing you may run into is if you aren't happy one way or another then Banks may blame Gibson and vice versa. Anyways, this mod is a good one. You will like the results.

I went with the entire Banks Powerpack, great power increase, but not real loud.Just kind of mellow. Will be at the 4Wheel&Off road summernationals this weekend in Bloomsburg Pa. Good place to go to see lots of SD trucks, everthing from mild to wild.

Re: Ready to buy a Banks Exhaust (But need help, Please :-)"

I was quoted $1016 from BANKS for just the headers and Y-pipe. I also called and asked about their EGR fitting and I guess they got it together. No customer complaints they say.

I can say I have noticed better throttle response now that I have the BORLAs on.

It's your money. If I went with the BANKS kit, go all the way with their set-up.

I wanted to be flexible with mine to mix and find what really sounds nice.

Needless to say if you have an EGR fitting on yours, Take off our EGR line BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE and make sure it fits into the new manifold. If it seems hard to remove the manifold adapter it will be cause they used LOCTITE or something to hold it in. I had my old manifold in a vise and pounding it with a sand hammer finally made it come loose.

Good luck, and remember we are here to help.

I love this Site
What type of cat back system are u running with the borlas?. What cat back sounds the best.
v10 is right the cat back isnt going to make a whole hell of a lot of difference, Im more concerned with the sound is going to produce the best sound. Im sure either system will produce respectable gain in hp and torque
again thanks

I just cut out the muffler. Straight pipe all the way out. Thinking about a FLOWMASTER 70 or 50 series muffler.

Re: Ready to buy a Banks Exhaust (But need help, Please :-)"

Installed the powerpack system. Just got back from a 2000 mile round trip through the mountains of the Shenandoah in Virginia then to Myrtle Beach SC. Towed a 25' travel trailer estimated weight of 6000 pounds loaded. The truck preformed perfectly. Climbed the Skyline Drive in 4th gear at 40 mph with no problem. Mileage for the whole trip was 10.2 mpg. That includes going only 44 miles in 3 hours getting out of Myrtle Beach SC.

Truck sounds good and got alot of attention with the Banks.

Re: Ready to buy a Banks Exhaust (But need help, Please :-)"

A little too much slap/sharp pop when cold but after it warms up you really only hear it when you get on it. Kinda sounds like a racing car, not like a V-8 deep rumble. Kinda hard to describe. I think the FLOWMASTER will tune it in a little better.

Cost me $20 bucks to cut off the muffler and have a pipe welded in its place.

Re: Ready to buy a Banks Exhaust (But need help, Please :-)"

Believe it or not the cat eats up most of the noise. I had mine off for a week and couldn't stand it any longer. I haven't gotten the balls to try it with the headers.

Don't ever order directly from Banks. Always use a dealer.

Heavy Assault, I used a 18" cressent wrench. With all that leverage no wonder I didn't think it was tight..

Re: Ready to buy a Banks Exhaust (But need help, Please :-)"

I have the Gibson stainless single side-swept. I just installed it 3 days ago. I had the same setup (in aluminized) on a GM 350.

Noticable improvement in power on both trucks.

As far as sound: I love it! It is actually quieter in the cab (at the exit it does have more of a rumble) than the stock setup unless I really mash it, then it sounds more like a Formula 1 car than a V8. Less resonance, seems to have reduced my flutter, too.

There are several V10 owners/members who went with a dual set-up from various mfgs. and regretted it.

Banks PowerPack (Complete) with a SuperChip.

I love the combination!

V10man's right about the CAT eating up the noise, the Banks Muffler is a clear straight shoot! check out my WAVE files at: http://ic.net/~wawii/banks/ or http://wawii.f150online.net/Banks/index.html

Heavy Assault

When my headers arived the were laid out on the living room floor for a week. (wife not happy) I looked them over and over with a big grin. My son was in total amazement that a few pieces of metal could excite his dad is such a way. He was eager to help out. Boy, he could reach up in the tight spots and get the bolts started and he even insisted on tightening them. More power to him I say! Aint it great when labor costs only a trip to the local Dairy Queen.

The Borla muffler is a straight shot too. However it had two of these "pointed spikes" inside it. They were about an inch in diameter. I'm guessing it was to control the noise somehow.
