Retrieving computer codes

Hi guys,

could someone outline the procedure for retrieving computer error codes ? Tools required, location of error code retrieval terminals, etc ? Also, could I get some feedback on how your V-10 idles ? Since new (10k now) mine has always had a slight roughness from around 900 rpm down to 600. Nothing pronounced just a feeling of a slight misfire you can feel through the seat while the truck is stopped. Something like a motor that's slightly cammed. I've read posts where others have described an idle so smooth it's hard to tell the engine is turning. I've had no startup problems. It has stalled only twice after cold startups months apart. It accelerates extremely smoothly with no hesitation whatsoever. Just a slight misfire that's gotten a bit more pronounced with age... probably nothing that couldn't be cured with a set of headers a chip & some straightpipes!

Thanks

Re: Retrieving computer codes

Most shops carry a diagnostic meter to check fault codes. SnapOn makes a diagnostic meter. The connector is under the dash below the ignition. Ive noticed a rough idle at or below 900 rpm. At a 1000 or above it's smooth as glass.

Re: Retrieving computer codes

Mine has the rough idle as well. I can feel it when I’m stopped with my foot on the brake and when in park I feel it through the seat as well. It is so suddle that I seem to be the only person that notices it, I watch the tach and it doesn’t change but there is definitely an intermittent rough idle. I have noticed this since day one and I only have 5700 miles on it to date.

One thing I have noticed is that I do have an injector leaking, it is damp around the injector and on the valve cover. It looks as if it is leaking around the o-ring where it plugs into the fuel rail. I’m not sure if this is contributing to the rough idle or not, but I do need to take it in soon.

Re: Retrieving computer codes

Thank you for the posts! Think I'll leave things alone for now. I've noticed different brands of gas do make a
difference on how prominent the roughness is.
