Re: Revs up at start up?????????

Don't know why it does this, but mine has done it on cold days since it was new. I guess that's another reason to run synthetic.

IAC (idle air control) solenoid ? Take it off your throttle body and clean it up with some carb cleaner and a small brush. See if this helps.

Re: Revs up at start up?????????

I watched my tach closely this morning as it was 5 degrees F. When it first started, it stayed at 1500 RPM's for a second or less, then settled in at about 1100 RPM's. Not sure what you mean by fast RPM's, but this seems normal to me. My old 351 motor with a 4 BBL carb stayed at 2300 RPM's on the fast idle cam, and that was at spec per the service manual. 165K miles later, it still ran strong when I sold it. Re: Revs up at start up?????????

It's normal fast idle advance for quicker engine warm-up per ford spec. My friend's toyota 22r motor idled at about 1500 - 2000 rpm to warm it up quick in the cold weather. However it was carbureted. Btw same thing happened when i cranked up a 5.4l triton v8 at the dealer lot as well as a triton 6.8l v10 so i doubt it's anything to worry about. It will auto-kickdown as the coolant warms up to temperature.

Have A Nice Day!

Sincerely,
Peter Charles Bellantoni Junior

Re: Revs up at start up?????????

A little higher at startup is normal, but I don't think that's what he's asking about. Once in a great while, my RPM's really jump on start up. I never touch the gas pedal while starting, but it's like starting with the pedal pressed down. I've never looked at the tach, but it sounds like it might be going to 3000 for a split second. I've heard others with the same thing, so I figure it's a normal quirk for the Super Duty.
