Rough idle after engine wash

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has experienced rough/low engine idle after washing their engines. The first time I attempted this I used light pressure water followed up by drying with a leaf blower (I know what you're thinking - 200mph air + water = high pressure water OOPS! didn't occur to me until I was done ... sure gets rid of the water though!) After letting the truck sit for 2 days it started with no problems but the rpm quickly fell from 1100 to 400-500 & it stumbled there for about 2 minutes. I washed it again a few months later this time using very light water pressure & drying the engine with towels. It sat overnight & started with no problems the next morning but after 30 seconds or so the same rough idle returned. Since I was so careful the last time and used as little water as possible I am a little paranoid that there might be a leak in the plastic intake tubing or in the fusebox areas. Should I be covering these areas before washing ? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

Cover and seal up as tight as you can anything electrical--distributor, fuse box, alternator, etc... before you was the engine and even then use low pressure water and still be careful.

Re: Rough idle after engine wash

Don't wash the engines. They have coil packs that short out.

Re: Rough idle after engine wash

Washing these engines like an older carbuerated motor probably isn't the best idea. I'd stay with something like Simple Green and an old towel, at least around the electrical components.

Just remember- racing stickers may add 5hp but engine chrome adds 10hp!
