Rough Idle.... for those of you that have had the problem....

well, mine started doing the rough idle bit this afternoon (the thing can barely keep itself running, idles between 400-1000 rpm).... i do have a check engien light on.

so... i pulled the chip thinking that was the problem.... no dice... then discoed the battery for a half an hour.... no dice (althought the check engine light did go out for three or four miles... but came back on).

so... for those of you whom have experienced this.....

what did the dealer do..... is it mostly the IDLE CONTROL VALVE that was replaced? and did this fix most of the problems?

how badly can this hurt my truck if i can't get it in for a few days?

Hmmm, I don't recall getting a check engine light with the idle air control valve. Look in the owners manual to see
what it says. Solid check engine lights deal mostly with emission stuff, I think. Good luck...

Re: Rough Idle.... for those of you that have had the problem....

yeah... i called my diablo chip dealer and asked him if he thought the chip did anything..... of course he said no, but wanted me to bring the truck to him for a scan before i hit the dealer... too far tho, so the dealer gets it first..... he did think an emissions sesor was prob to blame!

The IAC valve does not trip the check engine light. It's prolly a sensor somewhere. Good luck.

Re: Rough Idle.... for those of you that have had the problem....

I had this problem a couple of months ago too. At first I was sure I over oiled my K&N and destroyed the MAS,or that the IAC valve had gone bad. It turned out that a vaccuum hose had become weakened and was leaking a little and it really screwed up my idle. The weirdest part was it only happened every once in and awhile. It cost about $250 to fix if I remember correctly. By the way, when I took it in the service manager said that this was only the 3rd! v10 he had seen in for engine problems.

Hmmm, how many miles has the filter been in ? Has it ever been re-oiled ? I installed mine new but am now wondering if the MAS might
be too sensitive for for an oiled filter ...

Thanks

Re: Rough Idle.... for those of you that have had the problem....

I am getting the rough idle too at 32000 miles with my Fleetwood, Bounder motorhome. Ford is trying to blame it on water ingestion, even on bright, sunny days??? The air intake is still original, fuel filter, and air filters have been changed already. There is no "Check Engine", light. Runs great at highway speeds, no change in mileage, or performance at high speed. Did you have any luck with the "Idle control valve"? What was Code number, etc? I have look for leaking/disconnected air hose, etc with no luck. Anybody have problems with the spark plugs wires breaking down on their V10? Thank you, Robert
