Thumbs up For a snow blow truck which is better v10 6.8 or v8 5.4

I'm looking to buy a 1999 a up F250 or F350 Superduty for a snow plow truck and I was wondering which gas engine v10 6.8 or v8 5.4 holds up better and is easier to maintain? I know everyone one is going to tell me to buy diesel but I already have a diesel and want something different. I also was wondering what year, drivetrain combo, gear ratio and transmission is the best power for snowplowing and light towing? And of course I'm gonna do the 2012-13 nose conversion to it like my 1999 diesel f250.

Thank you guys for any info or opinions.

I'd say V10. I have heard a lot of good things about it. Having diesel-like power but not the hassle.

I ordered my '00 F-250 4x4 S/C to plow snow. As such, it's got the plow prep package with the X code front springs, plus trailer towing, etc. It's a V-10/auto with a 3.73 axle ratio. Hands down, this is the best plowing vehicle that I've ever owned and I've been plowing snow for over 30 years. We've had several winters with over 360"+ of snow and it handles the deep snow without any problems.

V10 all the way. Working that hard a 10 will actually get better mileage because its not straining as hard as the 8 would. plus, it makes that glorious noise....

Definitely go with a V-10. The 5.4 is underpowered for a super duty in my opinion, and they are constantly being overworked when towing. The V-10 will have plenty of power for towing and plowing, and the maintenance is basicly the same for each engine. Same oil filter, same oil fill (6.5 qts), drivetrain is the same (trans, transfer case)...the main difference is you will have 2 more spark plugs to replace on the V-10. The engines are the same, except the V-10 has 2 extra cylinders. Reliability on both is very good, a super duty deserves a V-10 in my opinion.
