Received my F-250 SD V10 4:30 LS 5 Speed Lariat on 10/21/2000. I noticed that there was no sound insulator under the hood. My 1999 F-250 SD V10 XLT had one.
I was wondering if this was omitted by mistake or did Ford discontinue installing the insulator for the gas engines? The truck was built in Mexico. The dealership could not give me answer and all their new 2001 trucks were Diesels. They did have the insulator under the hood. I am attempting to get a consensus on who did get one or did not get one with a gas engine with either the Lariat or XLT package.
I bought one and it does cut the inside noise down quite a bit. If I discover that this was a production mistake, I'll attempt to get reimbursed for the insulator. With the fasteners it cost me around $80.00.
I also have the Y2k Y-Pipe and have the "flutter" noise. I did some asking around and posted my results on Robsd's thread "Webigon's official new no flutter thread".
Also, I am new to this forum. Reading back I see nothing mentioned about Ford's new oil requirement of 5w-20 oil for the 2001 model year. My service manager informed me that if I use any different oil this could void the warranty. I do my own services and can not find 5w-20 oil. Even Wal-Mart who carries MotorCraft does not carry that particular weight. I also read that some oil companies are not going to develop the new weight because they feel Ford and Honda are making a big mistake and will eventually change the specification. I just thought some of you would like this information.

I seem to recall here somewhere that in 99.5 the gas engines stopped getting the insulator. My 99.5 doesn't have one so that would almost confirm it. The diesels still get it because of the noise.
If you have the new pipe then that's about all you can do for now unless you go aftermarket. The 2000 pipe will not fit on my 99.5 v10. So I'm living with it for now.
On the oil the 99's use 5w-30. Do a search, someones found it somewhere I'm sure.
Not so fast Rob. The pad was ommitted starting with the 99.5s. However, it just went into production again this past Sunday. Tell the dealer there i a reason Ford has went back to it an get your money back.

Geez...I only get my updates every week so I was off by four days. I'm sure it'll be in this saturdays night download. Still not to bad. Good luck in getting your money back.
xpracr, so why did they add it back to the line after a year or so? Heat? Noise?
I messed up. I meant to say "not so fast Rich". Sounded like he was kissing his $80 goodbye.
Saying Ford will pay for all the insulation that wasn't used for the last year or so is wrong. What I meant was, that if your dealer is at all conscientious they will give you a refund on the part you bought.
The blanket is there for noise only.
On the oil issue, look in your manual. It will list a range of oil viscosities that are acceptable. I'd imagine that a 5-30W will be in that range, will be easy to find, will work more than adequately and will keep your overzealous service manager at bay. If you really want to raise a fuss, tell the service manager that if that is THE oil that is required and you can't find it, Ford has to supply it to you.

Do you know if the 2001's were to have the overhead console with the flip down compartments? My 2001 looks just like the 99-2000 units. Also, I have the captain's chair's. Do you know if the center console is to have the woodgrain finish, like the Excursion.

Thanks for the information regarding the pad. I will see if/what the dealer will do. The pad does cut the noise down quite a bit.
Also, 5W-20 is the only oil listed as an acceptable oil for all 2001 Ford gas engines. Ford no longer lists a range nor will they accept another oil. That is where the problem lays.

Went to the dealer today. Inquired about the pad. His response was your model did not come with it so there is nothing he could do.I explained to him all of the information I learned here at www.ford-diesel.com. He had no response. I guess, I'll contact Ford Customer Service and attempt to get some answers.
