Spare Tire Fire

I have a 99 250SD 6.8L v10
I was recently pulling a camper up a grade when my spare tire caught on fire. It just sits to close to the exhaust. I don't know if any one else has had this problem but it is somthing you should check out. On my 95 f150 my spare would get scorch marks on it also but it never actually caught on fire.

fortunatly I caught it soon enough that I was able to put it out before it caused any real damage.

I would urge all of you the check your spares for burn marks and make sure that your spare has plenty of clearance, I hate to think of what could have happened.

Thanks for sharing. I have been procrastinating taking my spare out from under the truck seeing as it is not useful because I run big tires. I will remove it as soon as I get home and look into full sized spare for in the bed.
