Spark knock

I have noticed that when I accelarate going up hill in my f350 v-10 I hear what sounds to me like spark knock. If I take the trans out of OD the noise goes away. I can't believe This could be spark knock especially unloaded. Any Ideas? Thanks

Re: Spark knock

Are you hearing the "spark knock" in a particular RPM range? Are you sure its not the infamous "flutter"?
If its not "flutter", it could be a bad knock sensor, or bad/low octane gas, or you're running too low in the RPM range (1500-1600 rpm under load uphill).

Re: Spark knock

Hey Brother if you know preignition when you hear it then be careful. Get out of the gas in a hurry. First up the octane to see if it goes away. If you are loaded and offing the OD cures it two things are happening... you are lugging the motor and need to be at ahigher RPM or the sensor has crapped out and is not retarding the spark enough. I really suspect better quality fuel and keep the Rs above 2500 dragging a load will keep your engine happy.

Luck to you and Merry Christmas
