Squeak, Squeak, Squeak......What is that annoying noise??

My truck now has 40k miles on it and within the last 5,000 miles it has developed an annoying, rediculous squeak. It's coming from under the truck somewhere and even happens at slow speeds.....5mph or so. It's really noticeable with the windows down. GEEEEEZ, what can I do to fix this....it's killin me.

Re: Squeak, Squeak, Squeak......What is that annoying noise??

I had a spring related squeek, the dealer replaced front spring bushings under warranty and the squeek is gone.

Minecrime,
There is a TSB for replacing the front spring isolators. I had this done and presto, noise is gone! Do a search on this site and you will probably find the TSB number, if not email me amd I'll look it up for you.
Good Luck.

Does it matter if it's a 4x2 or a 4x4?? Does this seem to happen more on 4x4's?? I have an extended FORD warranty, do you think this is covered??

It's a very high pitched squeak that happens at both high and low speeds when going over the slightest bump or change in pavement. It's a lot more obvious when I'm rolling through a parking lot. It sounds like someones making a movie on an old mattress . The squeaks are very "short" but loud....just like a mattress.

HELP!

Re: Squeak, Squeak, Squeak......What is that annoying noise??

I replaced my front spring pads about a month ago which took care of most of the sqeak. I found the rest of sqeak in the bushings for the sway bar. I removed the paint from the are that the bushings contact and all is quite now.

Re: Squeak, Squeak, Squeak......What is that annoying noise??

Just last Tuesday, the local dealer put the new and improved spring isolators on the rear of the front springs on my 4x4. That evening I drove over some of those long speed bumps and listened to it squeeking like an old mattress. So it's back to the dealer when I have time.

Re: Squeak, Squeak, Squeak......What is that annoying noise??

TSB= Technical Service Bulletin
www.alldata.com/TSB/20/992063BZZ.html has a list of TSB's, just the titles not the content but there is one for 99's titled squeeky front springs on 6.8L&5.4L, there are links at bottom of page to see different years and models and when you go to models it lists different engines. Also lists recalls for all years , models.
Interesting reading. You can try, www.alldata.com but it is kind of confusing getting to the TSB pages, but its all there.
