Start up after extended sitting time

Hey guys,
I noticed the other day that after letting my truck sit for about a 24 hour period and then starting it, it made a real loud growl when it first fired up. It was less than a second, just the typical rev in the engine when started. It didn't sound very good, but I relate it to the fact that the oil is still down in the pan at that point. If I only let it sit over night(which is 99% of the time) it doesn't do it. Is this hurting anything, and does this sound normal? It definately makes me cringe when I hear it.

Have any of you had this happen? What can be done to help this?

I'm running Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil, but If I remember right it did it when I was running the dino stuff too.

Thanks for any help

Re: Start up after extended sitting time

Be sure to use a Motorcraft brand oil filter or a filter that has the anti-drain back valve in it.. This is designed to keep more oil in the top end to reduce wear on startup.

Re: Start up after extended sitting time

Mine made a "valve train" rattle when it was new on "Cold" starts. I changed the oil @ 1500 miles and added a Purolator filter. No more Noise! I think the stock Motorcraft filter had a defective "drain back (anti-drainback?)" valve. So if you still get the noise with the Motorcraft you might try the Purolator.

Re: Start up after extended sitting time

fyi, all Amsoil filters have the anti drain back valve. V10 uses sdf-11 filter.
